A Local came and told us that this is private property and camping is not allowed here. It is a trailhead so not sure how it’s labelled as private property but we decided to move on either way as she came down to specifically tell us she would call the cops if we slept in our car here. Just wanted to post a heads up to others

Nice view, but be warned there’s broken glass and a decent amount of garbage. We tried to clean some of this up. For bigger rigs it’s not level, but if u don’t mind a good tilt to your vehicle it’s a nice peaceful spot

First off this place is ‘Big Rig’ friendly. As described above they have a back gate that can handle any size rig.
We stayed with Ronnie and his crew for a week for a couple of reasons. The hospitality of this place is incredible and you were made to feel at home.
We also left our truck here and took the ferry to Ometepe for a couple of days. When we arrived back our truck was in the exact same condition as we left it. The restaurant is very basic with good food.
For sure some great friendships were made during our stay.
Ronnie was starting a new development in the campground to expand and put in hydro, concrete pads and maybe water at each site.
Check it out.

basic gravel parking lot just next to the road. a bit noisy in the morning because of trucks climbing the road. but very fine for one night in the middle of nowhere. locals said it is very safe. nobody came, only few women crossing the way to the next village. enjoy!

Very very nice campground with plenty of space and super friendly owners. The showers are hot and clean, wifi is ok , and you are close to everything you need. 150 pesos per person if you sleep in your own tent. Highly recommended if you want to stay in El Cuyo on a low budget.

The best place to stay for lots or reasons. Joyce is an amazing host and will make sure your stay is as prefect as can be. The facility is clean and tidy with all of the amenities you might need. If not, ask Joyce.
I used Sonoran Skies Campground to launch my moth long Mexico motorcycle trip and Joyce was so kind to allow me to park my truck and trailer on site while I was gone.
Can't recommend enough.

more or less flat grassy area with some trees ,visible from the road, should be fine for all kind of vehicles, no facility, quiet during night (we were there on a Wednesday). Just follow the road before the camping municipal.

Perfect campground with a lot of space with leveled ground. The owners are a very friendly and helpful dutch couple. They ran the place with a lot of dedication, ideas and design. There is an ecologial water recycling system supplying the well designed and clean bathrooms with hot solar powered showers. You have a fully equipped kitchen for general use. There are locations with shadow, access to fresh water in the center and a nice view in the valley. He even reopened a ecological dumpside for us he built some time ago but has disappeared under the lush vegetation. We stayed a couple of days. The entrance from the main road can be a bit tricky for very big rigs. We came with a pickup and trailer, 9m length, it worked.

I am staying at a campsite near here, and locals tell me that although this used to be a great spot, the gates are often closed now, and if they aren't, logging companies will chase you away if they see you anyways. This started during covid.

We loved this place! It was a perfect place to be during Semana Santa as well. It was full of families enjoying the river but it wasn’t loud and it wasn’t packed. The lagoon/ river is warm but ok to swim in. Rumor has it that there is one Croc but he likes to hang out on the other side far away from the campers.
The shower and toilet at Chi chow was the best of the lot but were often locked with no one in them. Just ask at the restaurant for the key.
The walk over the barra is lovely - we took a few bags with us and picked up some garbage while we were out.
Fruit and veg options in town are very very limited to either shop before coming or make due with what’s available. There’s no ATM in town either.
Price is 100MX per person.
After everyone left after the Easter week it was amazingly quiet and peaceful here. Maybe the price goes down too? Not sure.
