Basalt "cave", hideout of the Pincheira brothers, a royalist outlaw gang.
In my opinion not worth the entrance fee.

Road in was recently graded and easily traveled in 2WD while dry. This spot is located right at the rims edge. Beautiful vistas and tall pines. The last 50 yards or so do get narrow, anything wider than a Class B will struggle. Plenty of flat areas that could even accommodate larger groups. There is intermittent traffic but otherwise the only sounds are birds and the breeze blowing through the pines. Several fire rings exist between this location and FR218.

1-2 bars of Verizon.

Site has no prior garbage that requires being pack out which is a pleasant surprise.

Cold spring water faucets. Quite popular with locals. Etiquette seems to be to wait in line in your vehicle until you can pull up to the springs

We were so surprised that this beautiful Hacienda (ranch) was not listed in iOverlander yet. This place is so beautifully build and mainainted, the view over the Cotopaxi is fantastic and they have a truly fantastic restaurant (with 24-hours slow-cooked ribs!). They have won many prices with their cows, the offer horse riding tours and there are a lot of other animals.

We were traveling with our Overlander vehicle as a group of 4 for a week, so we booked a room and for an additional 10 USD we were able to camp in our car. They mentioned that they are definitely open for more overlanders to visit, since it of course also generation different revenue for dining etc. The parking areas do have a few horizontal areas, although that might look different at first.

After 4,5 months of travel this, this places was one of our top-5 camping and dining locations.

Stayed one night. Very friendly owner! He shared the wifi code with us, too. It was mostly quiet other than the neighborhood woof-watch (dogs). it’s a very small town, but there is a mini market in town should you need basics

Daniel is a very nice mechanic, he helped us on a Saturday evening with a problem of our cooling system. He gave us a good price and found a specific part for us at a shop. His number is 72369692 or 63696635

A team of vets with a clinic, groomer and pet shop. Super thourough and organised. The vet issued the health certificate with photos for leaving the country to Colombia on a Saturday evening for $30.
All the team members were really friendly to our Giant Schnauzer who is mortally afraid of veterinaries.

Illinois state park with $8 FCFS honor system campsites. No hookups, but water and dump station at the park entrance, and pit toilets at the two campsite areas we’ve seen. We are one of two campers at the Heron Campground, and there was one tent at the Boulder Lake Campground on a Saturday in May. Sites are different sizes, but any rig could find a place. Two bars of LTE for both Verizon and AT&T.

Hickory Ridge COE Wilderness Campground. There's a list of rules which indicates there's designated camping spots. I assume those are down behind the road closed gate. I walked down a ways but didn't see any campsites so it must be a ways in. Instead, I stayed the night in the parking area. Not clear if that's ok but no one here mid May. I stopped in Pella to see the tulips so this looked convenient to stay. It was further in than I expected especially with the main road closed so detour is needed and back in on a few miles of gravel. Protect and enjoy!

Very good Hostal. Fast wifi, hot showers, great breakfast. Nice covered patio that is heated in the winter so pretty warm compared to other places. Only negative point is that the kitchen is only for the staff to use to make breakfast (eggs).

didn’t find too many deserted beaches along the coast, so this is a treasure.
Crans happily running around and it s deserted for miles.
Be careful, there is is fork in the piste, don’t take the right one, it ends up at a newly built house

We are full-timers and have a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow. We stayed one night here in mid May to enjoy the springs. This is a nice hot spring with no smell and the temperature can be easily controlled. Please honor the owner’s wishes, as others have posted here and on other sites, and don’t camp at the hot spring, but east across the road at the big area with the dump truck. It’s only a short walk to the springs. There is absolutely no light pollution and the stars are amazing. AT&T service was fair with 2-3 bars of 5GE and speeds up to about 4 MB/s. Starlink had speeds up to 13 MB/s. We had DISH coverage on all of the western satellites. There were no OTA channels to be had with our fixed omni antenna.

Lots of spaces in front of houses on other side of dirt road. Most ppl left at dark. A few campers. Most spots are close to others but good for overnight camping or just move a few spots away. Right on beach. A few lights from nearby houses.
Huge beach area. 8/10 on places we have free camped.
