VanLifeNomad | This is not a big rig friendly place to camp unless you camp in the flat parking lot as you come into the area to the right or along the ATV trails to the right fork of the main dirt road. SUVs and Class B vans (4x4 highly recommended) will be able to make it up the steep grade over and switchback down the dirt road to the river sites (left fork of the dirt road), Class A and Class C rigs will not make it over the steep grades in the gravel. It was very windy when we visited and the wind was fierce. It rained hard and made for a muddy trip out of the camping area. Be sure to check the weather forecast before visiting. This is a beautiful area with gorgeous views. There is a sign at the entrance with a website address, it's not legit. This is BLM land and it is free. This is a great place for tent camping, jeep, four-wheel-drive camping and SUVs pulling small expedition type campers. Sites by the river are spread out. Lots of great hiking here too. The river runs super fast, use caution near the water. |

epsm-unterwegs.info | We made the mistake of checking in over the weekend. The nearby special forces place had a celebration with live music and it was very loud. perhaps its better on weekdays. Location nice, at the shore (grassy), with bar, restaurant and gym on site, all separately managed.

Holly and Jason | Excellent FCFS camping sites off the beaten path outside Durango. Early in the season, it was nice and quiet with only 5 out of the 17 sites occupied. (Opened May 5 in 2023) Two nice trails for hiking and mountain biking leave right from campground. Very clean pit toilets. Full cell service for T-Mobile. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the camp host, Carol. Such a sweetheart and takes great pride in her campground. Cost is $20 per night (cash only). Pack in pack out. |

adventurehaks.com | The process is exactly as described by “post” in the previous check in. But, in reality this is not how things operate. Morteza will take the forms you need from the officials, giving you no choice but to use his service. Right from the moment we got off the ferry we kindly thanked him for his offer, but that we couldn’t afford his service. ($150 per moto for us.....$240 for another persons moto on the ferry.) He charges whatever he feels like) This didn’t stop him from stepping in and taking control over our forms from the authorities. We found out at every step that he was withholding something we needed. The third time this happened we finally got the port authority involved. It took 9 hours to clear our motorcycles. Unfortunately the officials are in Mortezas pocket as well, so getting anything done without him is impossible. In the end it only cost us $50 for two motorcycles, which is the actual port fees etc. He had the audacity to demand money afterwards as well. Very dishonest man, and shouldn’t be trusted. Unless you fork over hundreds of dollars, I’m sure he’d be your friend then. |

white_troopy | I wouldn’t go here again. I visited a week or so ago with the owner and gave him a list of things I’d like to have done to my Land Cruiser before leaving Ecuador for Peru. A basic inspection with an old change, filters, chassis lubrication, tire rotation. I also had a new tachometer that I wanted installed to replace the defective one. I was given a price of $300 and made an appointment for the following week. My assumption was that the price quoted would include the oil, filters, fluids, etc. it’s what I’ve been accustomed to in the past. Well, I ended up providing ALL of this. I had extra filters etc. but would have liked to save them for an emergency which apparently this has now qualified for. We even walked down to a nearby filter house where I bought brake and power steering fluid; pretty basic stuff that you’d think a garage would have. When it came time to lube the chassis we drove down the street to another business where I paid for that as well. The tach was installed but not calibrated. The instructions clearly stated that calibration was required and a discussion ensued with the owner stating it was pre-calibrated. Well it’s not so I’ll deal with that down the road. It’s not working correctly. Finally, most of the work was performed by a what appeared to be a late teenager. Maybe he’s an apprentice but that’s not what I was expecting. The final discounted price paid was $220. Again after all fluids and filters provided by me. I’d look around in Cuenca. My impression is that there are other more competent mechanics at a lesser price. |

white_troopy | This place is great! Dixie and I will soon leave for Peru and Andrea the vet was able to provide everything we needed in one signed and sealed envelope. Dixie got caught up on two of her vaccinations. For this we paid $119. Andrea knows what is needed to exit to Peru and I’m sure glad I went there. |

orbitor | On south side of Bogles Ranch Road, big sandy area with fire ring. Road is wide and graded but with washboard, any vehicle can make it. Entrance is hidden by fairly thick vegetation, and is before the drop to the crossing of Big Sandy River. There are several ranches in the area, but no signs warning of private property at this camping spot. Stock corrals nearby as we heard domestic animal noises (cows, donkeys) constantly, including at night. No water, no toilet, leave no trace. 2-3 bars of LTE signal on AT&T.

sonny jadun | I went to this place to fill my 10 lbs propane tank. They do not fill or sell propane anymore. Gate security checked with a couple of guys, but no luck. Instead went to Gas Tienda next to the restaurant Peroleto's which will fill the tank for 115Q. You drop off and pick up the next day. I will add the shop to ioverlander.
