great hike to cerro penitentes, you should have some hiking experience to do it as it's quite steep in parts... 6 km and 600 m altitude to the refugio, where one (or maybe two people) can sleep inside or you can camp outside of course ... 4 more km and 1150 m to the top... fantastic 360° view!

little stone refuge next to the river, very small and more like an emergency shelter, but well made, no wind in there... a few options to camp around the refuge, you can drink the water from the river (the hike from here up to cerro penitentes takes 3 - 4 hours, steep, rocky path)

This is definitely intended for folks with no other options and next time we’d definitely try to find another option to avoid taking advantage. You check in and they put your name on a list. There’s only one shower set up, so you wait in line for your turn. However, it was a good experience and the people there were nice.

I think if the pool is open you could pay to swim and use the shower in the pool locker room as well.

We arrived late and the owner offered us some dinner for 100 ppn. and camping at 250 ppn. He sat with us at dinner. He said that he is of the far right and started talking politics. He is racist and that made us feel quite uncomfortable. Campsite was clean and they made a fire for us in the common house where there is tables and a sink. They also heated the donkey shower.

Water factory. We got water outside the wall, on the water tap left of the gate. We asked friendly for water, then they open the tap. Water was free. It’s drinking water! Thank you!

Pool now a mosquito magnet but it’s still a great place to park on your way out of Naranjos road, as options around Todos Santos are mostly RV parks. This is chill and has beautiful views of the surrounding area. Some road noise from hwy19 and local traffic. Lovely dogs to play with. Price asked for was now 150 pesos a night.

Having visited the Ranaria in La Fortune before (where the frogs are presented in glass boxes), I was sceptical towards what to expect from this place. As the guide was not available when we arrived, we could make the tour with the grandfather (who started this family project 12years ago) and it was such a great experience. He was able to spot various beautiful frogs in his large garden (6 hectares) including the glas frog. Furthermore he found some cute white bats. Payed 25$pp. At the end his family served us fresh fruit juice. Can recommend this place.

If parking in the back of this large place where there is a sign „4x4 parking only“, it is very quiet. Price 6000 if staying overnight. When we were here the restaurant had electricity from a generator (not sure if this is a temporary or permanent solution), hence they switched the power off at around 4:30 pm thus also turning off the wifi. Wifi is free, no password required. The bathrooms are accessible all night long. There is also a night guard on duty.

The price for the shuttle boat to Tortuguero is 3000 colones pp one way, large luggage costs extra. First regular boat in the morning to Tortuguero leaves at 6am, the last one returning leaves Tortuguero at 3pm.
There are various options to make boat tours through the national park, they start in Tortuguero. There is an office of Asoprotour here in la Pavona (open until 4pm), where you can book such a tour. We opted for the canoe tour and it was a wonderful experience (payed 25$pp).

Lugar muuuuito barulhento em um sábado a noite. Até 3am muito barulho e mudamos de lugar.

Noisy area. We stayed until 3am with a non stop noise. We had to move.

Alicia is absolutely wonderful. The hacienda is beyond gorgeous and full of adorable animals (sheep, bunnies, owl, cats, dogs). We stayed one night here en route to the Sierra Chincua butterfly sanctuary. We camped at the property, but she also has rooms for rent. Please reach out to Alicia prior to your arrival at [email protected] so she knows you are coming.

Very nice place to stay! We could camp on the parking lot of the lodge, which was perfect for us. Very clean toilets.

Owner is very friendly, we liked him. He also runs a restaurant, but we did not try, as we had dinner before arriving. Meals we saw looked delicious.

We ended up here after finding the BLM land nearby completely trashed and unsafe (mattresses, broken bottles, and a treacherous, steep gravel Pipeline Rd), we were pretty frustrated by the time we rolled up here. It was a great stay through bad weather, got sandwiched between 2 semis which protected us from the wind and we were able to use the bathrooms all night. Non-potable water spigot is bright blue and easy to find next to the parking lot. A cop was parked all morning, seemed to just be keeping an eye on things. Great spot for a 24hr stop.
