Something not right?

Description

Wonderful "new" place, the new owner bought it in September 2017 and renovated it. We paid 20$ for the two of us and our small RV. No electricity but toilets. The river is just a few meters beneath the campground, with a little platform to hangout. There's a small restaurant and some guesthouses. In the restaurant is a living room with WiFi. The Big Rock Waterfall and Rio On Pools are nearby for a wonderful refreshing bath.

we tried to camp here but they are temporarily not taking campers so we went to Big Rock Falls

Report Check-In

Very nice place to stay! We could camp on the parking lot of the lodge, which was perfect for us. Very clean toilets.

Owner is very friendly, we liked him. He also runs a restaurant, but we did not try, as we had dinner before arriving. Meals we saw looked delicious.

Great place, great owner, great pizza and great haircut!

We stayed two days at Pine Ridge Lodge. It’s really nice to cool down in the mountains. The camping area is a little bit further down from the cabanas. Niel, his family and the dogs are really nice. They make some amazing pizzas (only Saturday and Sunday). Niel is a really good cook, host and storyteller. We really enjoyed our time there. 10 BZD per pp.

Nice place with an awesome nice host. We stayed only for one night after visiting the pools and the waterfalls. You camp at a separate place on the area. It’s very quiet at night. There is a small „pool lake“ where you can swim. There is also a compost toilet and a cool outdoor shower.

We ate the pizza and it was very very good. The quality was fresh and really good.

You pay 10 BZ$ per person per night. The pizza is 30 BZ$ but worth it. There is only wifi at the restaurant.

Stayed for two nights, price still 10 p.P. Parked in front of the office because it was to wet to get down to the campground. Neil is an absolute amazing host and you have to eat there because he prepares everything fresh an with so much love& joy!!! Ask for a haircut ;-)

Still BZD 10 pppn. Neil is super nice and welcoming and a awsome host. The campground has everything you need and the toilet (pit kind of porta potty style) and shower were super clean. He build a little platform by the river to hangout.

Neil is absolutely a very nice man.
His place is nice too, but nothing special compared to similar places.
Food is on the expensive side (15USD for one single smallish plate) and mediocre.
The campsite is a big slope (hardly any level spots) of sand amidst the pine trees, insect ridden, especially sandflies. Beautiful pond close by though.
The toilet was very, very dirty, to the extent that we didn’t dare to use it.
Sorry this sounds a bit negative but it’s quite a hassle to get up there and it might be questionable if it’s worth the effort.
Check out for instance Clarissa’s Falls near Benque Viejo, which is the opposite of all of the above mentioned.

Lovely place. We enjoyed the cool nights here. Neil is a great cook. We couldn't resist eating in the restaurant every day. We had the best and freshest meals in a long time here. Camping is really nice as well (nice outdoor shower & clean toilets). Only downside was that the campground is not flat, but there are a lot of stones to solve this problem. There is a nice platform at the river for tents though.

As described in previous posts, though they have completely undersold the wonderful tastes at the restaurant. Jaime the chef puts up a wonderful table...our first night was handmade wontons, delicately fried, with both a sweet sour and habanero dipping sauce. More wontons in a beautiful broth with thinly sliced carrots and other vegetables. Very impressive for a remote outpost.

Neil can also arrange horseback riding at a nearby rancho which will take you through forest to a beautiful hilltop with views to Guatemala. He can also arrange day tours to Caracol, Rio Frio Cave, and other locations if you're not wanting to take your own rig.

Bugs at the witching hour can be bad, but easily managed and are gone when it cools off.

Highly recommend this place if you want to experience the Mountain Pine Forest area. 45 minutes on rough road, AWD recommended if you're hiring a car. I wouldn't recommend "big rigs" take this road unless it's a Mog or other sturdy rig.

A note for "freelanders": The common area is in the restaurant which is a vital part of the business. If you choose to hang out there and use the wifi, please order a beer or three to suck on and/or a meal or two.

By the way, the owner was a salon owner in Guatemala City for twenty years and was the personal barber for the president and first lady. If you're in need of a trim, he's amenable to do you up for a reasonable fee.

Super friendly owner Neil bought the place 1,5 years ago and upgraded all the bungalows and the restaurant ever since!
Nice camping down at the creek, very clean toilets (flush / with TP) available at the restaurant.
Meals (no menu, everything fresh prepared according to availability) looked and smelled good (didn’t eat there ourselves because we had groceries that needed to be used unfortunately)
Neil gives you great advice what to do in the area, we stayed two nights and drove to Caracol and back from the Lodge
Price: BZD 10 pppn, plus if you sit in the restaurant area (with fast wifi btw) he kindly asks you to consume anything in return which is a fair deal!
Great spot for overlanders - thank you Neil!!

Fab place. Loved it here. Parking up by a small river in beautiful gardens. Very friendly and helpful British guy owns and manages the lodge and has done a great job. Excellent food in the little restaurant, no menu, he just tells you what he has in the kitchen and cooks something to your liking. BRITISH overlanders will love traditional food options like Yorkshire puddings which were the best we've had in a long time. Fast wifi in the lounge area. A great base for visiting Caracol and exploring the area. Plenty of space for big rigs, but look around for where you can best level up. The site is slopey, but we managed to find a level spot near the river.

Stunning scenery. Loved the feel of the place & the owner was super helpful. Nice level camp spot right near the river. The owner even let us take showers in one of the cabanas. Only downside is that we had more sandflies (not sure what else to call them) than we’ve ever seen in all of CA and none of our bug sprays didn’t work. We had to retreat early to the the tent and then leave early in the morning. Make sure you arrive with long sleeves and come prepared as it’s a pretty place.

very nice place in the National Park! The guy at the entrance asked us about a permit but you don't need one if you come here. We camped right infront of the river but we spend most of the evening in the common area because it's really nice and comfortable there with fast wifi. You can start a hike at the place. During the night it cools down and it's quiet with some rivernoise. Beautiful!!! Owner is from the UK.
