This is the best spot for camping at Osorno. Nobody around, not right at the road. Looking over the lake, and Osorno is behind you. Sheltered.
Our dog could run freely. Small little walks around the old refugio. Follow the satelite images, or go in to the refugio and follow the road. 4g cell signal!
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Overnight camping is not allowed in this park, the ranger came in the morning and wanted to take us to the police. They patrol the area every morning.
Report Check-Inexcellent spot, only saw a few local hikers and some cute foxes. stayed two nights. one of our favorites. lots of other spots on the road.
Report Check-InWe arrived late at night and slept fine, but at two the following day two guys from the CONAF came by in their car and told us very clearly that we were in a national park and sleeping here was not aloud. They also told us that the road up to the volcano/restaurant was closed. They would not let us continue and waited and escorted us the whole way down. It had been snowing that night, so maybe that was the reason the road was closed? Anyway, nice spot but probably not the place to stay the night.
Report Check-InWe found a golden wedding ring at this vulcanic gravel area.

Maybe it belongs to a overlander so that is why I post it here
We brought it to the Guardaparque down the hill
Perfect wild site. Flat . Room for four or five rigs. Down the track passed the old Refugio.
Report Check-InPerhaps on of the best camping spots we’ve had around this area and for free. We’re here on a SVU and two tents, more than enough space for us. Nobody around on a Monday night/Tuesday morning.
Water: no water in this spot. We went up to the upper refugio first (1,7km from here) and there we were able to fill up our bottles and bladder from one of the water tanks that was overfilling. We treated the water just in case.
If you’re on a bike this spot is gorgeous too and the access is easy.
Report Check-InNice spot! as described. suitable for any rig, only the road here is a bit narrow due to branches, but doable.
Im the morning two maybe Conaf guys came around with a buggy and lingered for like 10', but didn't say anything or didn't knock.
Best 4G+ reception so far in the country :)
Report Check-InAs desribed; beautiful views and very quiet. Heard one fox(?) barking in the night.
Report Check-InReally beautiful and private spot, highly recommend!! You have to follow the road past a Refugio but it looked empty and unused and then the spot is hidden out of sight. So peaceful and great to watch the sunset over the lake. Thanks to the original poster!
Report Check-In+1 for previous posts. Great spot, spookily quiet. Watch out for the sneaky foxes.
Report Check-InSpent the night here and it’s really beautiful quiet spot! Plenty of space and the view from the antennas is breathtaking. Judging from the traces on the hill it looks like a popular viewing spot among the locals. A family came in the late afternoon but everyone left before sunset.
Report Check-InSo I spent Christmas Eve here, headed south, and then on my way back, prioritized staying here again as it was an amazing location. Christmas Eve another couple came by and set up camp much farther down the road. I loved the very first spot on the left after you pass the two buildings (unsure who uses them or when as I never heard or saw anybody using them). This spot was big enough for a big rig and/or one towing something. You have a great view of the lake and the volcano a short walk away and 4G (Entel) as the towers are right there. You can take a trail up to them which will provide an amazing view of the sunset. Really, the only downside I have about the place is that there is no fresh water source… but if you come prepared for that, no issues. Unsure if this would be available during the winter, but at least at this time of the year, you can’t beat it!
Report Check-InThis is hands down the best spot for camping at osorno. Nobody around, not right st the road. Looking over the lake, and osorno behind you. Sheltered.
Had our dog running freely. Small little walks around the old refugio. Go here before the top! Follow the satelite images, or go in to the refugio and the follow the road. 4g cell signal!
