Escapetotheworldblog | W trek advice - logistics Hey, this is just personal advice on the parking and transport for the W trek, something I wish I'd been told before to make it a bit easier. So you either start (and park) your vehicle at Pudeto or Hotel Las Torres and do it from west to east or vice versa. As everyone says, we experienced as well that Pudeto had way to much wind for us to feel safe parking there for a few nights. So even when the forecast would say whatever, it'd always blow much harder there. So we still wanted to start from Pudeto, but we parked at the other end where everyone else was, so at the visitor center at Las Torres (fairly sheltered from wind in our opinion). Then the buses - well rangers don't really provide accurate information on where and how to get those shuttle tickets. From Hotel Las Torres you first need a shuttle bus to Laguna Amarga entrance. It takes 15' and you pay directly to the driver, no reservation needed or possible. Dec 2022 first one was at 8 am. It costs 3000 CLP pp, cash only. Then you got several buses from Laguna Amarga to Pudeto. Tickets for BusSur you CAN buy at the Las Torres visitor centre. They cost 5000 CLP pp and you can pay with card. First bus was at 8.45. Anyway, at Laguna Amarga there were more buses (also other companies) so some drivers told us we could do it without any reservations in advance. So, all of this said, there's no way that you'd catch the first morning boat from Pudeto using this public transport options. Neither was there any option for a private transfer or whatever at that moment. * For Pudeto ferry you also don't and can't make a reservation, they would just put in all the people waiting there. Maybe come 15-30' early to ease your nerves. Good coffee at the cafeteria there tho. So I hope it helps anyone :) * pumas, Dec 2022 - someone said that recently some have moved closer to laguna Azul. However one is said to be hanging around Lago Sarmiento entrance for a few days. * Wind - on 28/12/2022 one passenger car was caught in a mini tornado, turned 180° and back and got shattered all 4 windows - in the middle of the road, so in no special place. Also one camper trailer got blown over. Despite the guards were saying that morning that there was nothing to worry about with wind (on the forecast of 100-120 km/h).
So just keep that in mind and be extra cautious :) |

Escapetotheworldblog | Stayed here one night without any problems. Also some other campers were around. Wanted to spend the night here as the wind forecast looked promising, but around 23.00 it got too windy for us so we moved to a parking lot next to the park. This was our favourite place to sleep due to the relative wind shelter and the presence of many other campervans. Officially you're not supposed to sleep here but staff told us that nobody really cares (it is however a spot for long term parking if you're going trekking). So it was still windy all the time, but much less as in other places. Toilets were nice and there was always toilet paper. |

philipp.koechert | loved our stay here! planed to stay two nights, but ended up staying a week. because of the vibe, the good people we met there and frans, anneke&taco who made our visit really nice. you are right at the beach and a little further away from the busy part of the village. so you have the beach part almost to yourself. you can enjoy a beautiful sunset in the morning while having coffee. lots of shade due to big palapas on the proberty and two umbrellas in front of it, at the beach. facilities very clean (get cleaned every day) and European standard (toilets with seats and plenty of paper ;)) outdoor kitchen with many plates, cups and pans. even if it got crowed we were able to cook without problems. shared sitting area where you can talk to people and make friends. bookshelf where you can get new reading material/exchange old ones. very quite and save at night. also place to charge your phone/laptop. you can rent:
with 250$/night (no hook up)for our camper van a good deal (since you get water, gas and etc. for cooking for free). also good place for dogs. during our visit there were at least five dogs. all but one little one very quite and got along with each other. just clean after them! be respectful with water usage and aware of others and you will a have a wonderful stay! |

thecommunitybeehive | Beautiful spot!! So safe, tons of van lifers. Could fit big rigs too. No hook ups or bathroom. Cute gas station around the corner. Little beach with waterfalls!! Parked on the beach part. There is a large parking lot. State trooper came on day two of our stay and hung out for 2 hours. But no issues, just patrolling. Loved my stay here and the area. Locals are nice and welcoming too! Watch your speed in the area - per a local! Three of my friends in their cars all parked here with me too. |

TanJet | What a gem! Open field with 2 covered areas. It backs on to the Rio de Celeste with a natural pool. Can't get any better. The washrooms were a short walk and despite a farmy look, very clean. Pedro is a super nice guy. If he is not there, go further straight a bit and knock a few doors and ask for Pedro. |

whyattn | Covered picnic tables. Fire rings. Plenty of space at the 4 sites. Sites require registration ahead of time (the website was a bit hard to use on mobile). When we pulled in our spot was occupied and there is no one on site to enforce reservations so we ended up splitting our spot with strangers 😕. I would advise showing up early to get in. Great spot overall - and free!!! |

T | Beautiful place by the lake, garden, bungalows, restaurant and bar, all super quiet and relaxed, but they've upped their prices to ridiculous levels now. They asked for 150cedis pp/pn to pitch a tent and a hammock, when the bungalow is 200. It just makes no sense, so we had a drink and left for Green Ranch |

T | As said before, beautiful eco-friendly pmace built on a steep hill with a big terrace, an amazing view of the lake, great vegan homemade food and even nice red and white wine. Perfect place to relax and chat with Elodie, the super friendly owner who likes to hear overlanding stories. We slept in the dorm for 90cedis each, nice and comfy, mosquito nets, dry toilet and great shower. All clean, all good, would definitely recommend. The entrance is pretty steep tho, so careful with bikes. |
