Amazing place. I stayed 4 nights, paid $70 a night including 3 meals a day, and 2 excursions every day. But I believe that was a low season rate as I saw that it’s normally $100 per night for Venezuelans and $125 for foreigners. You can also camp if you want for $50 a night but it’s extremely hot. Rooms have AC and there’s a pool. Food was good they will accommodate for your needs. Excursions were amazing, the area is full of wildlife. We went out by boat, bicycle, and horse at different times. You see tons of birds, cappyberas, any eaters, crocodiles, pirañas, and more. The landscape is beautiful and the amount of wildlife there is insane. Sunsets and sunrise are also so beautiful. They have lots of baby cows at the ranch and horses. The staff is incredible wonderful and great. Super nice place to visit and experience in Venezuela. There is plenty of space for Moto’s and Vans. The road in is easy all paved to get there and about 3 miles of dirt but flat.

DON'T GO HERE!
I came here with a French friend, we are both cyclotourists. Just that day there were two other cyclotourists. When we arrived, around 18:15 he told us that they were already sleeping (which was a lie because the next day they told us that they were waiting for our arrival to share some time).

First he gave us the option to put the mat on a floor and soon after he offered us a bed for each of us, only that one of us had to share a room with Joel. I had no problem sharing. My friend went to bed a little earlier and I stayed with him chatting. After a while he offered me a ritual with coca leaves (supposedly this was done when the hotel was open with clients). After a while he was lying to me, that if you have to take off your shirt, then take off your pants and panties, as you are a cyclist I will do your legs, he told me. He was covered with a towel and tried to take it off when I put it back on and held it with my hand. I admit I didn't cut when I started to feel bad and uncomfortable, but I never thought he would do something like that.

Then he made me turn around and started rubbing himself on top of me touching my ass and so on, I could tell he was excited with his breathing altered. After a while he jumped on top of me, then I pulled away and he said "I'm sorry, I thought you were .....", as if to say that I liked men. It has nothing to do with being gay, I respect them deeply. In my opinion he had this totally planned, that's why he didn't want us to share with the other cyclists, that's why he offered dinner to us and the other two no...

For me he is a depraved person who took advantage of the visit of a traveler to do what his perverse mind proposed him to do. I don't want to think how I would have felt if I had been there alone with him. Do not go, be very careful with this type of people. Then the misfortunes that we all know happen.

totally burned there are hardly any animals, except for some birds and warthogs, in a dry lake, the excursion itself does not contribute anything, they should not charge for it, maybe before the fire if it would have been worth it.

totalmente quemado no hay apenas animales, salvo algunas aves y facoqueros,en lago seco,la excursión en si no aporta nada, no deberían cobrar por ello, quizás antes del incendio si hubiese merecido la pena

Excellent camping and recreational area close to the Mexico-Guatemala border. We stayed 2 nights (Sat and Sun), it was busy during the day with local picnicers but we were the only people camping. You can camp in the grass area near the old bus (this area was party central on the weekend) or park along the river (lots of trees and shade). Note that both Google Maps and Waze give the wrong directions for the last 800m. The entrance is at the bottom of the hill, turn left after crossing the bridge. It is a narrow one lane path, big rigs will NOT fit down the lane (there is a section where you pass between 2 trees and there is just enough room for a truck).

Awesome location near the water. Tons of trash and graffiti in the area which is disappointing. Quiet and tons of space

Café (since Sep 2023) with cakes, coffee, cold drinks, many souvenirs as well as funny surrounding (e.g. a russian rocket! upside down). A lot of parking space as well as seating facilities on a veranda. Wonderful mountain view. A special thing is the snail post. You can buy a postcard, place it in a cupboard and hopefully your friend will pick up the mail one day.

We arrived late so we didn’t quite make it up to the canyon. There was a flat area to park right before it that we stopped at. Drove up to the canyon the next morning and it was beautiful. We definitely recommend this place! The stars at night were remarkable.

Very nice campsite with super friendly staff! I spent my birthday here and they really made me feel special. We camped with my boyfriend but since it was going to rain they let us put our tent in an empty house that was finished (but not furnished) by the lake. They brought us wood to make a fire at night, they let us put some wine and cheese in the kitchen's fridge and in the morning they brought us a cake! :)
Really recommend this place!

Camping at the waterpark parking lot. They close at 4 p.m., so you are completely alone on the property. There is a friendly security guard present 24 hours a day. You can swim again at 8 p.m., but there is no lighting (too expensive). Toilets were not clean, after asking they hung a light in the shower. No wifi. We were there with our campervan for 1 night, two adults, two children and paid 21$. If you want to stay 24h it’s 32$. We had to leave at 11am. Not far from Joya de Ceren. Good for 1 night.

Great little picnic area for an overnight stay. No privacy, although a few spots are a little more tucked away. Picnic benches, right off highway, lots of room for vehicles, has trash cans. No water or bathrooms but can sleep here comfortably for 24 hrs. Would stay again.

Great to explore the city! Calm, really fast wifi even in the car & everyone very friendly!
On the downside: quite a few people lingering around and you feel a little watched if you can’t stay inside your vehicle, the toilets are really not nice and the whole place very dusty & dirty + the pooping birds of prey…

From here you can walk 1 kilometres to the nearby trainstation and buy a ticket for 0,80€ pp to easily get into the city centre. The trainline only opened up in 2023 and is really well organised. We can absolutely recommend taking this option!

Before leaving the sailing club one guardian demanded really impolitely for us to pay for his cigarettes. We didn’t pay anything except the official fee for the parking.

Really beautiful & calm beach section!
If you come from the main street and don’t drive along the beach to get here, it’s a little tricky to find a way from the village through the trees to the beach. But there definitely are many options, if you don’t have a too big rig! Sand is quite soft! We had to reduce our tire pressure….

This place is private. There is a gate to see the monastery but you cant go with the car to the place of the beautiful picture anymore.
Big sign of no camping and caravans in the parking.
Plenty of beautiful spots if you keep going up a couple of meter in the main road.
Enjoy

Got here after dark, but used Gaia maps for the last bit of gravel roads. I wasn't sure there would be anything here, but you can trust the coordinates. It was a windy and rocky spot, but flat enough for my tent and a fine place to spend the night. Good star gazing.

Lots of opportunities in the forest here, sign says 14 days max. Pretty accurate descriptions for this spot, Google tried to take me to the road below the spot, but you have to go further up the hill into the forest to find the left/right fork. Left spot as described and pictured is better- more privacy (can still see a bit of road through the trees), better view. Road was fine in a RAV4. Many gunshots on the weekend, not too close though. Verizon signal usable, ATT barely with booster, no TMobile.

Basically no trash at the moment, but there was like 5 poor excuses for fire pits all over, so I grabbed some extra rocks and made a much better one off in the corner.

I paid $5 for camping at the edge of the crater. I thought I also had to pay the $2 for park entry / sightseeing but they never charged. I had to ask for the ticket / receipt multiple times though, otherwise it seemed like they would not have given me. I was able to push my bicycle up the trail all the way to the mirador and the camping spot. Gorgeous views and was very quiet on a Friday night. Not too windy when I was there. The next day, I was able to leave my bicycle at Shalala and hike around the crater, which took about 5 hours and was kind of sketchy but was amazing. Keep in mind that the $2 fee for Shalala and the $2 fee for entering the town of Quilotoa is different, if you want to enter the town from the main entrance, you will have to pay an additional $2.
