Description

A riverside picnic and camping area with all the typical amenities, picnic tables, bbq grills, futbol field, small tienda and restaurant (open until 8pm). Of course this is mostly a day use area for locals but also a camping area. Bathrooms and hot showers are in very good condition and clean. Water to fill rv tanks if needed. Didn't ask about wifi but Claro reception was average. 25Q/pp for the night. To drive here, you can follow the river frontage gravel road directly on either side of the bridge. No problem for our truck camper, vans should be fine also but nothing bigger should attempt within looking first. We usually stay at Monte Carmelo but they had a really huge group so gave this a try and it was a great option!

I would advise looking ahead at the road prior to driving down the road towards the campground. This is the road that goes into some low hanging branches along the creek, right after the bridge. FYI google maps is wrong, turn right after the bridge and follow the creek. We are in a sprinter (11feet tall), we made it but the owner of the camp had to get on top of our van and cut down branches as we drove. Once you make it to the camp it's nice. Bathrooms are humble, flushable toilets, cold showers. There's a restaurant on site, food was good. Lots of locals come to this camp for the playground and picnic tables. Pretty fun experience seeing all the kids play, they took great interest in us saying hello and seeing the van.

Beautiful spot! Once you pass the bridge there is a fork in the road. Make sure to turn left right away. The owner was super sweet and helped us get into the spot. There were a few low hanging branches which he cut down for us to pass. 30gtq ppn.

Excellent camping and recreational area close to the Mexico-Guatemala border. We stayed 2 nights (Sat and Sun), it was busy during the day with local picnicers but we were the only people camping. You can camp in the grass area near the old bus (this area was party central on the weekend) or park along the river (lots of trees and shade). Note that both Google Maps and Waze give the wrong directions for the last 800m. The entrance is at the bottom of the hill, turn left after crossing the bridge. It is a narrow one lane path, big rigs will NOT fit down the lane (there is a section where you pass between 2 trees and there is just enough room for a truck).

As described, 30Q p/p for camping when arriving on bikes. It rained a lot in the afternoon so we camped under the covered area near the restaurant. Very nice people and clean facilities. We stayed Saturday night and it was not so tranquilo due to a big group arriving at 9pm for a party near our tent.

The next day we moved to Monte Carmelo upstream where it’s only 10Q p/p camping, 15Q p/p under cover and 30Q p/p inside a cabaña. Also nice people!

It's a nice spot to camp and stay a few days after you just crossed the border. During the weekends it can get crowded, but we enjoyed it and we were even invited by some locals for food and beers. During the week you practically have it to yourself. We were the only ones camping there as well for the 4 nights while we were there. The owner and family and colleagues of the restaurant are super nice and helpful. When we arrived we went out for food at the restaurant. They have some specialties, pastas and burgers. It was nice and we paid 100Q for 2 burgers and 4 beers. We were able to connect to the WiFi of the restaurant and used that the whole time. While it was raining we were allowed to pitch the tent under the big roof of the terrace of the restaurant. And we were allowed to use some of the tables and benches for our own. All in all, it was super nice. Definitely, definitely recommend it. The only downside could be that there is only 1 shower and it is not a warm shower, but it didn't bother us. We paid 60Q per night for two people, two motorcycles and one tent.

Nice little camping ground where locals come to spend the day. Charged me 30 quetzales for thé night. Relatively quiet, some dogs barking and roosters in the morning. Owner was quite nice and friendly.

Let's begin by saying that the city itself is not worth a stop. Used this as a stopover after crossing the border from Mexico. The road is being redone but many sections are in bad shape.

The very narrow road to the camp spot begins right after the bridge.

If you park toward to the decommissioned bus, your can use your Starlink and get a stable connection. Dishy stayed almost flat.

Lots of dogs barking during the night! Lucky they calmed down after a while.

Very clean toilets! There are also two water taps where you can connect a hose (one with a sink and one near the toilets). The water pressure is good but unfortunately it has a lot of dirt in it. It has made our water filter very dirty.

The shower is sketchy with the ground wire sticking out. Did not use.

Per previous comments, nice spot to camp with a very friendly and helpful owner. Arrived by bicycle with a tent, charged 30Q. Very quiet on a Tuesday afternoon, imagine it gets busy on sunny weekend days. Lots of dogs around, didn't hassle me but lots of overnight barking!!!

Nice campground, clean toilets, welcoming people.
As mentioned there are two ways to this place:
Before the bridge is easier with passing the river. Make sure it's not high!
After the bridge is extremely narrow and tricky. Our car is 2.19 m wide and 5.35m long. We could pass without a scratch with care. Way back the other way was much easier! 4x4 definitely recommended
