Good for a night. We arrived late and had a quiet night. As we prepared to leave early the next morning some kids came to our car. All friendly though :)

nice small little parking as described. works well if you're car camping or in a small van, dont think anything bigger than a sprinter would be suitable. beach on one side of the road, and a little cove of rotting seaweed-- fantastic if youre a bird watcher! never seen more warblers (myrtle and cape may) at once in my life! must be 40-50 diggin around in the seaweed. sit for a while on the rocks and theyll come sit within a meter or two of you.

This was the place we had to get the permit to camp one night in the tatu yapi, they sent us here from the itaipu visitor center.

Heavy rain today, so road leading in was rutted. Campground itself drained fairly well. Several sites open when I arrived on a Tuesday at 7:30pm. Looked like quite a few long term residents have called this home. Bathrooms reflected the lack of attention to this area. Good for one night; but I’m tempted to dig a cat hole (I’ve run out of cleaning products since my last few BLM visits)

Pulled into this place around 5pm after a long drive. As mentioned, Jorge is super welcoming. At the time his electricity wasn’t working so I got my beers 100m down the road.

A surprising amount of traffic on the road. Some dust and a few sand flies but a great option along the way. Safe.

Would stay again.

Belo lugar, próximo ao rio e com vista para alguns morros. tranquilo e escuro, algum ruido da estrada, mas não incomoda.
Beautiful place, close to the river and overlooking some hills. quiet and dark, some road noise but not bothersome.

A comfortable spot about a half mile from the road. We were not sure we liked the spot when we first got here, but after a few days it's just great. Sun in the morning, shade early evening from the hill behind. Try across the valley if you want shade in the morning and sun in the afternoon. A little bit of trash and broken glass but overall not bad. Just one of dozens of places to camp in the area.

Awesome spot! The Attitude Alignment IPA is so good. Pizza was also good!
Very friendly staff. I was comfortable as a solo female.
Four other RVs and it was surprisingly empty inside.
I guess they do fun events… Comedy nights & music. I don’t have Facebook, so I couldn’t look it up in advance, but they apparently post everything on there.

There are train tracks, but the two cargo trains that I heard were going really slow and didn’t blow their horn at all.

If you need a nice park nearby to stretch your legs, Rocky Butte Park has a dog-friendly paved trail that is around a mile long. The parking lot is not big-rig friendly unless you are OK with parking on the street in front of houses.

We spent another night with Anne at Baobab House on the way back through Bulawayo towards Plumtree border. Very convenient. Border not far.
As always, Anne super friendly and helpful. Lovely green grass for camping, log fire, full use of house, kitchen, ablutions and vegetable garden. Also got a load of washing done and ironed USD5.
Thanks again. Highly recommend.

Lovely bush camp with bar/restaurant overviewing the lake. Have not met the owners but the staff is very friendly. Lots of wildlife passing by. We even had elephants, zebra and hippo walking through our camp. Unfortunately there was no water 2 out of our 3 days, and the only day there was the pressure wasn’t great. Wifi is working and pretty good but we were surprised we were charged for it afterwards since no one had mentioned this to us before. We had a lovely stay and would recommend this place.

Very nice Welcome Center. I spent a relatively peaceful night here. The sounds of the highway and trucks were pretty much white noise, so had no trouble falling asleep. The area is well lit and I saw a police car making a drive through at one point. Felt very safe.

We had no problem staying here. Open public bathrooms were a big plus. Many long, loud freight trains passed all night long. Just for that reason, we probably wouldn't stay here again.

As others have said, quite a maze, lots of people telling you different things. Some details:

-After passing long truck line, agent gives you customs form and checks passports as you enter the port area.
-Initial parking once you get into the Port area should be directly in front of the main building in the car parking spots. If you don't get sent to the scanner everything can be done from this area, if you do get sent return to this area to complete process.
-Pay $1 to get inside the building, and $3 to get your passport stamped out. Asked our occupations, that's it.
-Find inspector, in one of the little white buildings on the right of where you parked. This person or persons will inspect the car. They need the TIP and filled out customs form. They will stamp the customs form, and will choose to send you to the scanner or not. If you don't get sent to the scanner go inside to Aduana(see below)
-If you need to be scanned: drive around main building, first to the right of it, then around the south side nearly leaving the port area, then drive all the way back north. If there are a lot of trucks, the next steps will require lots of winding around through the lines of trucks. -Before entering the scanner, you must turn in your customs form at a window, which is on the northwest side of a huge blue building in the northeast corner of the port area.
-Once you've turned in the Customs form, then do more winding around to get to the scanner, on the east side of the port, midway north- south. You enter from the south side. You can get right to the front of the line next to the trucks and an officer will let you in when it is your turn.
-Passenger must exit, driver takes vehicle into scanner. Leave engine running(officer repeated that 3 times), exit vehicle along clearly marked path.
-Once scan is complete, pick up your passenger, and then drive around the north east side of the giant building where you turned in your customs form. At the northwest corner of this building there is a police inspection and waiting area.
-Wait until an officer comes out with your customs form and calls your name. Another check of vehicle ensues based on what the scan saw. When officer is satisfied, he signs customs form. Then return to parking area where you first started.
-Aduana is located to the right of immigration, go in the doors with the "no hay paso" signs where people on foot getting their baggage scanned are exiting. Go in the doors and to the right, second window is where you cancel your TIP (overland stickers on glass) Aduana agent keeps tip and stamps your customs form. You are now nearly finished!
-Recommend taking a photo of your customs form at this point as this is the only record of your TIP being cancelled and the form is taken at the next step.
-Exit port and head to Costa Rica, pass line of trucks waiting to exit if need be. At exit point from Nicaragua, officer will check passports and take your customs form.
-You are free!

Adding a note to my previous one. As we were getting ready to leave, a pickup from Lusk Public Works parked near us and we talked with him (he's also the emergency management for the county).

He said it's not strictly legal to stay overnight, but there's no harm if you do. He'd rather have tired travelers stay overnight than have to deal with cleaning up an accident if people kept driving when they shouldn't have.

Bottom line: it's okay to stay overnight.

Definitely a nice place to stop. The owner Stalin is super friendly. Now it’s 1$/Person. The view is cool, his alpaca Felipe as well :-). He also sell some snacks and arts, and offers banos.

Nice place! Short walk from the parking lot to the beach! There is wifi at the Banca da Familia tienda - must ask for the password. We were able to park right next to there. The beach itself is iconic! The town is very relaxed. Happy travels!

4WD definitely recommend.

Trail: Rocky / deeply-grooved walls in sections. Went off-trail in a couple of spots — thought I may get stuck.

Spot: The views of Capitol Reef, in the horizon, make this spot a pretty special one. No other campers around.

Wow, amazing hospitality from the owners of this enormous restaurant. They absolutely insisted that we come in and eat dinner for free. We asked to share the salmon and steak but no… they gave us each a huge plate of food - lunch for tomorrow! We left a very big tip and gave the owner (Julio) a thank you card.
In the morning the manager of the breakfast restaurant came to our van and invited us in for breakfast too, on the house. We just couldn’t do it so we grabbed a coffee and used the bathroom only. We were overwhelmed by their generosity.
All the staff have been instructed to welcome visitors and they sure do.
Wonderful place and had a quiet night sleep as well. There is a water tap out back to fill your tank before you leave.
Wonderful place, let’s keep it that way!

Large gravel lot on the northeast (not southwest) corner of 5th and Oregon. Adjacent to municipal court and police dept offices. Look for the sign that says “48 hour parking”. Quiet area. Stayed one night in our 21’ van. Woke up next to a sheriff’s truck— he was working on his truck engine and didn’t bother me. Note: there was a slight sewage odor outside at one point during the evening— there may be a treatment plant nearby. 2 bars Verizon.
