Crossed this border from Uzbekistan to Tadzjikistan. Very fast, within one hour everything was done. They don’t get many tourists it seems, everyone was a bit surprised about two Dutch people in a campervan, but all very helpful.

Uzbek side: they check car papers and do customs check, then passport stamp and finished. No costs and nobody asked about registration papers.

Tadzjiek side: stamp passport, wanted to see dog passport. They charged us $5 for “eco tax”, and $25 for the road/customs tax. There is no such thing as eco tax at other Tadzjiek border posts, so I told them I have only $25 dollar and they should figure it out. It caused some confusion, but in the end it was okay. Also: when we translated the paper I got for the “eco tax” later on, it said that it was for our dog, but it also said that this paper is supposed to be free. So we were happy we didn’t pay extra.

I asked for 30 days for the car and that was okay, so we don’t need to extend. They also didn’t need to check the car on the Tadzjiek side, we could leave straight away. All in all pretty smooth and very fast.

The place is currently under construction, but it’s supposed to be finished in 2 weeks from now.

The shop was open however and we could get a small tour. It was still worth a visit, but the tour was a bit minimal, maybe because of construction.

They asked $3 pp for the tour, silk scarves are $30.

Diesel for 9000/L. Diesel is generally not hard to find in Uzbekistan in 2023. However: the Fergana valley was the only place where we didn’t see many places that sold diesel.

Nice view here! A few spots are mostly level. It's a large open area. Starlink works well here too. Check out the infinite explorers photos.

It was really quite place to sleep. Nobody disturbs. You need to find shade :-)

We found this place on Airbnb and stayed for 10 nights, because we had to sort out all our visas for the west route and our cars were partially in the workshops. Dirk and Schuneen are amazing hosts. They live on the property as well and have a bigger (up to 4 people) and a smaller (2 people) unit which they rent out on Airbnb. They helped us a lot during our stay with organizing things and were very welcoming! There is plenty of space to park your car(s) securely.

Excellent place for a few days of rest and relaxation. Random train and ground vibrations from said trains otherwise quiet. Water spicket still available. Clean camp spots. Donation is suggested.

The yellow flies are supposed to be the worst from April to June. It’s May. They are terrible. I have to take my dog for a walk but don’t want to leave the van. Other than that is is a beautiful campground.

Great place. The water place is built but had no tap installed when we visited. So no water. Everything else is there.

The place is open. The Crew have us a very warm welcome. All facilities are in shape. Hot shower, water end electricity, washing machine and laundery dryer. Bar!

truly a wonderful wild camping spot. Lot of space on grassy area among trees. we spent two nights. No one around except from a shepherd. The road is high above, no noise. No visible habitation. No trash except from a couple of bottles. At one end access to river. Very nice surroundings.

I am very happy with the service and work done. They were flexible for a quick appointment. I recommend this place!

The cottage he bought in Bulawayo is a little paradise, a magnificent garden with a swimming pool and several terraces to enjoy a cold beer or have breakfast.
Overlanders are warmly welcome here. There is a small corner of lawn to pitch your tent and space for 2 or 3 vehicles or 1 big rig in the yard under a big tree.

As described before. Decent hotel, $10 for a single person, and loads of room for parking. Wifi is now free and it reaches to all of the floors.

We wanted to make it to Cuyocuyo before dark, but didn’t make it. Here is a good flat spot for a tent. Good ground for pegs. No wind protection, but there was almost no wind. Next to the dirt road, but nobody there, no traffic, really quite. No water. Beautiful place with nice mountain view.

Large Shopping Mall, Western Union in left hand corner 2nd floor, open till late, no siesta, and apparently no cash limit - got 250.000 pesos without problems.

Super quiet and well-maintained. The man that oversees it, Jerry, lives at the west end in the house to the right of the restrooms and dump area. He has a drop box for payment at his house and was very kind and offered help should we need it. Definitely a nice stop if you have pets or kids with a park, picnic tables, playground, water fountain. Awesome little site!

A lovely little hotel with several chalets and a bar overlooking the harbour. The owner, Samuel, is very friendly and helpful, and even took us down to the fort in Shama.

A room is 500 cedis for the night with breakfast. The rooms have AC, ceiling fan, TV, WiFi, and a fridge.

Samuel is currently having a swimming pool installed.

Estivemos aqui uma noite com nosso 25 pés, ninguém nos incomodou. Há algum barulho da avenida ao lado, mas vale a pena.
We were here one night with our 25 feet, nobody bothered us. There is some noise from the street next door, but it's worth it.

un comedor on mange dans un kiosko repas tres local et très bon. n'hésitez pas à passer avant dans la journée pour la prévenir que vous voulez manger le soir. on a manger une assiette de soupe délicieuse et ensuite une assiette de riz légumes poulet avec boissons et dessert tout ça 30 bol par personne. et la dame est adorable !!! et on lui a acheter des bonnets qu'elle a fait elle même

We had an excellent stay at Dixon‘s Place! We stayed 2 Nights and payed 6000 colones per night for 2 people and one 4x4 runner with rooftop tent. The Campground is very groomed and there is a cute little outdoor kitchen and two hammocks to chill. But besides the beautiful campground is the owner the absolute highlight. Super friendly, helpful and welcoming. This is absolutely the best campground we‘ve visited so far! Would highly recommend.

It's a good place to stay a night, very quiet and nobody passed by. Wouldn't stay longer, just because there are much more nicer places in other areas.

For directions see comment below. Google will lead you to the other side of the dam, but there is also space for camping.

It's hard to get to the water. At the dam it is very steep and at the other pathes to the water it was very swampy, at least this time of the year.

There was a football practise on the pitches which was probably why like 3 motorbikes and 4 cars passed in my 10min of being there at 10pm. Weirdly busy for a dead end road so i went to the gas station.
Btw big rigs watch out with driving all the way to the end where it’s blocked and very hard to turn around. The mentioned parking spot is like halfway in to the dead end road that leads to a parking lot

free camping spot for 2 small campers, toilets, warm water, free electricity, no showers, great view, tables under the roof. excellent place to stay. It's EU project so it's for free

Secure, gated, palm tree shaded, gravel driveway behind tall walls and a tall locked gate. Fit with a 2005, 158” wheelbase sprinter. We ran fans at night and with that white noise slept very well. Great option to park for the night before a border crossing. Super kind owner of the restaurant and hospedaje it seems. We drove around the back first and saw the gate, but then drove back around to the Main Street to introduce ourselves and ask if we could park there. There is a sign on the main street (190) for an estacionamiento, but we parked at the hotel Aborada, after talking to the gentleman in the entrance who greeted us, across from the Instituto Nacional de Migración. There’s a tienda down the street for basics like bread, chips, beverages and a taco shop across the street. We paid 200 pesos for the Sprinter.

Park next to the river with public bathrooms, tables and fireplaces. Was clean alright even though I just needed water.

about 4 km from HWY 99, big flat gravel place, easy top get in, no sign, no anemeties, no phone

Found this site in my F350 Truck Camper. It's just off the dirt track that winds through the Valley, but a little bit up from the road with space for a smaller class C, truck camper, van or car. The space is mostly level and I was able to position my truck without a need for leveling blocks.

Excellent views all around, but primarily to the east. I haven't seen the sunrise yet, but hope to experience it tomorrow.

I entered Valley of the Gods from the south entrance, and being late in the day, most of the choice sites were already filled. Even so, I passed by several open sites mostly very near the road , but I noted their locations in case I needed to backtrack.

The dirt road is very narrow, hilly, and twisted just north of this location, and I would not recommend a medium or large trailer or rig of any sort. Larger rigs may be able to enter via the south entrance, but should not expect to make the entire loop.

Your mileage may vary… Do your homework and maybe even watch some of the videos folks have posted. This is generally a pretty decent road, but there are some areas of concern if you're in a larger rig.

That said, I'm pretty happy with this site which is why I am adding it here. (The two sites on either side were occupied when I arrived)

Tomorrow I will exit the valley to the west, perhaps take in Gooseneck State Park, get a bit closer to the actual Mexican Hat Rock formation, and then try my luck going up the Moki Dugway.
