There is a lot of free overnight parking in this surrounding area. Just below on River street, there’s 2 lots - one a public parking lot with no signage, and another gravel lot (entrance between some bushes and trees) that’s empty across from the River Arts building. A few construction trucks park there in the morning, but otherwise empty. Plenty of free street parking. Stayed overnight in the gravel lot with no issues!

No need to buy anything unless you need it. We asked to stay in the trucker area right behind the OXXO store beside the gas station and they said no problem.
The bathrooms are open 24 hrs and they are free.
It’s not the quietest place but it’s safe and secure which means we will sleep well ( with earplugs!)

Great pull off on the side of the road, about .2 miles from the highway. It's at the top of a hill and views are incredible, there are no signs up here at all and you can barely hear the highway noise. 2 bars of Verizon.

Free 48hr self contained Caravan or RV rest stop. Away from main road so quiet at night. Located beside old railway station. Plenty of room for big rigs. There is a dump station further up the road headed east.

Malawi --> Tanzania
Quite smooth bordercrossing, in two hours we were trough.
Malawi: Stamp passport at immigration and Carnet at customs out. They wanted to check the roadtax document we paid when entering Malawi.
Tanzania: Registrer at gate, then when entering building first a healthcheck for Yellow Fever/Covid vaccination (wanted the QR code of our international covid vaccination) and temperature check. Then fill in the form for entering and get visa at immigration desk (visa on arrival no problem). Prices are as noted below. Then customs who stamped in the carnet and arranges the roadtax/TIP. The price as below for 30 days, you can also choose 90 days for double price. But was told we could also extend later if we stay longer than 30 days, so we opted for that.
No need anymore for copies of driver licence etc. He makes a picture of it with his phone 😉. Roadtax/Tip had to be paid in shilling at a bank a few hundred meters away (to the right, up the hill). As said, they close early (and don't forget the time change with Malawi). Also you can get your first shilling here from the mobile ATM so no need to change cash at the border if you don't want to. Then return, get the carnet back and receipt for roadtax and you are good to go. Small check of the roadtax/TIP document before leaving the gate. No need at all for a fixer, but they try quite persistent though. Possible to get a pre-registered SIM card after the border.

If you don’t mind being under the flight path of the Charlotte Airport, this place is perfect. We ended up moving on because the planes were loud and frequent. But, maybe it’s your thing.

Called to ensure this Cracker Barrel allows overnight stays and was told that yes it was okay to stay. We stayed one unusually warm Friday night in November in our van and had a decent stay. Yes, there was noise from people hanging out and using the car wash across the street. And there was consistent road noise as well. However, it all quieted substantially by around 11pm and I didn’t hear another noise until 4:30am when someone used the car wash across the street. Overall a decent place to crash. We were visiting the national park sites in Hyde Park 30 minutes north and came here since there weren’t any good overnight options up that way and this was a good spot to stay. There were big spots at the back specifically for RVs too which was nice to see. Would stay again.

Very quick and easy border crossing from Montenegro to Albania in our camper. Insurance available from a small kiosk on the right after leaving the Albanian check.

Babu and his wife provide excellent accomodation for a very cheap price. There are group rooms and private rooms available. There is hot water, average WiFi and pleasant relaxing area. The area is surrounded by beautiful forests and villages. There are day treks, monastery's and temples nearby. Food is basic but good and cheap.

Cute little park with lots of wildlife. Ducks, geese, chipmunks, squirrels and raccoons. There’s a cool walking path to see a waterfall.

stayed the night. no knocks. no signs other than don’t leave your valuables in the car and don’t feed the ducks.

The bathrooms aren’t very clean, but there’s running water, heat and lights.

Large pavilion with electrical outlets. lots of picnic tables.

would stay here again. someone was sleeping in a rooftop tent when i showed up and didn’t put it away until 9:30 am. good spot.

Cottages in Miramar, Barra. Affordable accommodation if you need a break from camping. Super neat and clean. Very close to the beach and restaurants. Owners and staff are super helpful and friendly. They really go out of their way to organise authentic trips around the area for good prices.

Beautiful place, really lovely owner who cares a lot about making your stay as easy and comfortable as possible. Very warm showers, clean bathrooms, lights, electricity. We stayed one night with our roof top tent and the kids had a great time playing around the river and rocks. Definitely recommend if you’re nearby.

Trailhead for lower Eagle Creek trail

This is a short trail that lead to a hot spring.

We had 7 creek crossings and the 3rd was almost waist deep so watch your water level pre crossing.
The reward at the end was wonderful.

Not hot but nice and warm, found a couple other hot water sources in area but no pools..
