Nice campground, all sites have lake view. Lakeside is for boatlaunch and parking. Some trees shading some sites. Between lake and road, so some road noise. The restrooms and shower work, but they are showing their age. Since our site was first-come first-served but the self-pay has been removed, the camp host came around to collect our fee.

stayed here in our roof top tent last night, cool little place, nice and quiet. We took the dirt road just to the left hand side of this location inbetween canyon 1 and canyon 2 site. The road is rutted out but we made it just fine in our 2005 santa fe, medium to high clearance required.

The place is beautiful and lonely - good possibility to camp there. But the road (8km from Homun) is really bad and narrow.
Tried to get there in our 22 feet campervan, but it was no fun.
Shouldn’t be an issue with smaller cars and a high clearance.

Great fun couple of days.
Rather expensive. Prices are from 88,000 to 172,000 COP.
We parked overnight at the top of Hotel Africa. Saves the vehicle entrance fee for the second day.
Most of the animals seem to have decent size pens and plenty to stimulate them. Few of the animals were paces up and down the fence line of their cages, which was sad to see.
Note. The water parks are only open from 11:00-16:00 to assist planning your day(s).

There is a porta potty, however it was turned over on its side when I went there. Not sure if that was from vandals or if the severe thunderstorm that was going on when I arrived did it. (Although the wind didn’t seem crazy enough to achieve that). I didn’t end up staying overnight because the storm was freaking me out too much, but the park seemed nice aside from the unusable porta potty. I had driven to this location and the camp on the other side of the lake and saw no other vehicles there, but that again may have been the storm’s doing.

amazing landscape BUT in beginning of may really much snow only possible to pass with bicycle which is also a hard struggle and really Dangerous. in summer maybe possible with 4WD. under 2800m camping spot is easy to find. Plan enough time for it especially in spring and autumn.

Unfortunately the night was not good. No one was in the parking lot at 6:30 p.m. but at 2 a.m. a vehicle parked right next door with music. Stopping around 4 a.m. then starting again at 6 a.m.... Too bad the site is magnificent in the early morning.

Marked as 8 hr stay but I stayed longer. Gets really quiet late at night with traffic noise starting around 6am . Had one person honk at me to be a typical jerk to wake me. Beautiful view of the bay and acess to beach, dirty toilets but functional with caution. *Parked at north end to be out of view of the houses above.

KE -> ET

It's not quite a one-stop yet, you still have to do KE exit customs up the hill back toward KE, on the left side, last building before the exit gate to KE.

The KE customs guy took half an hour to stamp out my carnet. He was on the phone for a bit of that.

KE exit immigration guy sauntered in 1 hr late (09:05) and stamped out pretty straight forward.

ET Health registered our passports and looked at YC.

ET entry immigration was pretty straight forward.

ET customs guy checked my bike VIN and looked through panniers. Probably 45 minute process including paperwork.

I used Muller (see a previous post) - Muller got me a ET Ministry of Tourism letter, and one on his company letterhead (Simien Eco Trek).. I started the process with him last Monday, got those letters Thursday. I brought them to ET embassy in Nairobi (actually I emailed them to Dabang Ruot Gach, having met with him at the embassy a few days before) and picked up the letter from Gach late Friday. Sent scan to Muller who delivered it to ET customs commission in Addis Saturday morning. On Tuesday around noon the customs commission approved, and sent their own letter to Moyale ET customs.

I visited yesterday to try to clear customs a day early. KE customs wouldn't stamp, and ET customs took a long time to track down the customs commission letter (I never received a copy). Eventually they found it and said come back tomorrow when crossing.

So, almost done, just finishing the final bit of customs paperwork now. Whole process about 2 useless hours yesterday, 30 minutes of waiting for staff to arrive this morning, 30 minutes KE customs, 5 minutes ET health, 10 minutes KE immigration (two people), 15 minutes ET immigration, and one hour 15 minutes ET customs.

They stamped the Carnet in.

Great spot! Perfect when you are tired or have issues getting over the pass. I blew an air suspension line and needed to be done for the day! Great cell reception. Please no campfires! Trail worker stopped and said camping is fine but if there is evidence of a fire they would have to call the sheriff and would have to close the spot

Day use has a $5 fee, this is a state park. Day use parking is probably about a 10 min walk to the showers. The shower in C is right across from camp hosts. No parking other than camp sites nearby. I felt weird trying to sneak in but the campground is lovely so at only $23 a night, I splurged and reserved a spot. The shower was just warm, not hot. No temp control. But it did the job.

Still there, still looks nice. But they wanted 20 Soles for each bycicle per night. So we didn't stay. Prices are a little higher now, but still a good deal of you are not on a bycicle.
