we hitchhiked from St Louis to Dakar and passed by 3 corrupt police checkpoints along the way.

Every time it went the exact same:
Police would pull us over
Police officer walks to our car and asks for some papers, our driver gave him the papers, they exchanged some words and the police officer would walk back to his police post.

Our driver would then put 1000 CFA (€1.50) inbetween some papers, get out of the car and walk over to the police officer to hand him the papers.

Police officer takes the papers, takes out the money and then hands the paperwork back to our driver after which we were free to go

Our driver explained that "this is just how things go in Africa" and that if you don't give them some money they'll find something wrong with your car and fine you instead.

I'm not saying you should start bribing police officer, just sharing our experience of how we've seen locals deal with these corrupt check points.

Funnily enough none of the checkpoints seemed to care about us being in the car, they didn't even ask for our passports.

Many picnic tables and grills here and some are under a large roof. Nice vault toilets. No potable water here but Big Meadows Campground has that. Several trailheads. Day use only. No camping sign posted.

Free established campsite with picnic table and fire ring with grate next to stream. This site will be occupied early on weekends.

Ok Place to put a tent. Take the dirt road next to the bus stop. This will lead you as far away from the main road as you wish. Plenty of flat spaces for a tent.

We spent one night here. We asked if we could stayed with our van, they said no problem. Don’t know if there’s a guard at night. Safe and pretty quiet night.

Rough road right off Hwy9 leading into Zion. Town with all amenities close by. Lots of people here, pretty close by but it's quiet and nice views.

Good spot, lots of options, low clearance and 2WD accessible

oh also I forgot to mention earlier, but the beds have mosquito nets 💪🏼

same as many comments, knocked at 10:15pm by security, (very nice guy) asked to move at the spot near discount tire, as the 5/10 others RV there last night

L’endroit est magnifique. Se trouve à 4000pi d’altitude et sur une route étroite d’une seule voie en gravier. Impossible de croiser quelqu’un sur ce chemin. Il faut reculer.
Nous y sommes monté avec un autobus de 40pi et avons eu des sueurs froides en pensant à la descente. C’est certain qu’un pickup avec une roulotte de plus de 24pi ne peut aller là, il n’y a pas de garde corps pour t’empêcher de verser dans l’vide. Soit sûr que tu as de bon freins pour la descente.
Ça vaut vraiment la joie de s’y rendre. Nous sommes resté toute la fin de semaine sans croiser âme qui vive.

Open as of April 28, 2024 but the mud in the roads and on the grounds is absolutely horrible. I’d give the earth a few more weeks to dry up before camping here. I saw a sprinter getting towed and immediately left.

Beautiful host. Delivers a walking tour of La Floresta area around 10am daily. Contact him in advance to confirm timings. He grew up in the areas and talks through his experiences with Pablo Escobar and the various groups living area. His English is limited, but his learning and he is very apt with Google Translate.
No sign on the hostel front to identify. Need to contact direct.
The hostel has a social WhatsApp group you can join to meet others for activities.

Great showers, super friendly and helpful staff. $5 Canadian. Building entrance is on the left side when viewed from the parking lot.

Keep it clean or it will be gone. Right now it is clean. Will it stay that way. Locals drive by and so far they are tolerant.

Quiet place on the beach. Lots of locals in the afternoon. After sunset we were alone. No service. Garbage must be taken away. The square is right on the bike path.

Manolo and his family are kind and welcoming. The parking spot is nothing out of this world. Simple, next to the horses lol I think they have a bathroom since they asked me if I needed it but we have our own so we didn’t use it. We paid 75 qtz for parking, 300 qtz for the guide which was Manolo and 300 qt each for a horse. It was awesome with the horse! We also had reserved a pizza at the top with Pizza Pacaya via IG but Manolo told us he could have arranged it for us as well. Didn’t know but def do the pizza too, it’s pretty good and a unique experience!

But we negotiated for 1000M.

Bathroom is very bad, no running water in toilet and shower, but they boiled it in bucket by request.

No air conditioning, just fan.

Free RV dump station, flush water spigot (probably non-potable and no hose provided). Air hose to fill tires.

Drive around back, along the North side of the Truck Wash building. Look for sign that says RV dump.

Left our car here for almost three weeks for a trip to Galapagos. Everything was fine, when we came back.

Safe and Secure parking space with fences, cameras and a guard.

There are a lot of empty parking lots, you get a card and pay after returning. Very easy. I think it gets cheaper the longer you stay - we payed 63.000 for 19 days.

Bus to the airport for free. Uber to centre 12.000.

Everything is in one building at this place, drive through. Around 1,5 hours on a Sunday afternoon.

Check the informations on your document and make sure its the correct TIP! They
thought our (german) Van is from Brasil and also used a wrong VIN number (just 4 numbers?). First, they also gave us a wrong document because of the Brasil mistake.

Still just one lane traffic at 2 different areas.

Took us around 1 hour more on a sunday afternoon, not to much traffic.

This is a pretty difficult spot. We did not make it during dry season with 2WD. I would walk the whole trail before making an attempt. It’s pretty steep in sections and we felt it was a rollover risk to turnaround mid way.

Definitely doable with a motorcycle or capable 4WD. But don’t take your Honda civic up here.

Absolutely awesome location. The road was very graded, and wasn't too steep for a Class C RV of 22ft. Quiet and Nice views
