A little way east of Mancos, forest road 316 heads north, also called Madden Peak Rd. The first mile or so goes thru private property, then it enters the national forest. There are scattered boondocking locations in the next few miles of the road. If you take a right into FR 568(1.2 mile in), there are also a couple of spots there.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
a little dusty but nice place, I have a28 ft bumper pull. plenty of room. visible works great.
Report Check-InThis whole road has loads of camping spots. Even with plenty of campers here we found something out of sight surrounded by trees. Temperatures during the night in july are a blessing after the desert heat.
Report Check-InNous sommes restés deux nuits dans ce bout de forêt entourés de vaches. Les terrains de boondocking sont très sympas, il y en avait beaucoup d'occupés à notre arrivée le vendredi soir.

Great camp spot! A few sites to choose(5-10). Roads are in great condition! Class a 30’ easy to drive in. Lots of flat spots available.
Report Check-InMany many spots really intimate. Also a lot of people. We stayed there 2 nights. Was really calm. Not too much mosquitoes
Report Check-InA great overnight en route to Mesa Verde. An easy 1.5 miles off HWY 160 on a gravel, occasionally rutted road that I had no trouble navigating in my 2WD Sprinter. Found a marginally shaded spot that was almost flat—a few blocks got me close enough. 1-2bars VZN LTE.
Report Check-InGreat location, went further up the mountain and parked with a beautiful view to the east and a great, private clearly to the west. Tucked back in a pull off road.
2 bars LTE, tons of room for the dogs to play.
Great location, easy to find. Lots of spots available! Still very private considering it was pretty full.
Report Check-InIn seeking an overnight spot this fits the bill. We drove a couple of minutes on a solid gravel road, saw one big rig at the very first fire ring so adventurous big rigs can do it just fine. We chose another fire ring marking a spot a little further up. If you want to plunge deep into the forest just keep driving. Very easy. Evening and night had no traffic noise but the morning commute could be heard from the highway a short distance away. Other than traffic noise there is nothing to disturb you here and you will get a solid nights sleep.
Strong Verizon cell signal giving good internet access. High altitude comfort in summer.
Just confirming it’s a great spot. Lots of easy pull off and a couple trails that take you off the main gravel road a bit. There’s a generator station or something that makes some noise. Lots of cows visiting.
Report Check-InEasy spot to get to in any car. Very beautiful area and A LOT of spots for Rvs/Campers. I had full bars 4g tmobile service here. I was able to complete my work as well😊
Report Check-Inwe couldn't get in here. the road is closed, assuming since it's still winter / spring.
Report Check-Inroad closed past this point as of March 4 2022 due to snow in mud but road was clear up to this large turnout that would be suitable for spending a night. I'm pulling a 13 ft trailer And there would be room for one more RV type vehicle Total length under 24 ft. Oak and ponderosa pine.
Report Check-InMany sites along the road. Once you pass the tall pines there are only a few spots available and only 1 suitable for a big rig as most of them have precarious entry points and aren't flat (okay for tent/car campers). Good cell service. Hunters/target practice heard a few times.
Report Check-InGate is open and a great spot to spend a few nights. There were quite a few people already out there on a Friday but many spots to choose from. The road is in great condition at least for the 2.5 mi we went in. Great signal on Tmobile and Google Fi.
Report Check-InGate was closed but there is a large pull off infront of it. Slept the night no problems. Around 7am people started showing up to hike up the FR
Report Check-InExcellent spots scattered far enough apart to allow for privacy. Many to choose from. We drove until we reached the tall pines for a bit of shade. Good cell and hotspot service via Verizon. Quiet and comfortable.
Report Check-InPlenty of pullouts along the road, some more tucked away then others. Quiet. Solid 2 bars on T-Mobile.
Report Check-InMany good spots. We drove our ProMaster down the dirt road for a good little ways until a large camp site on the left just before a wide pull off or turn around on the right. At this point we turned back to find a small cluster of spots on the left. The very best spot is at the end.
Report Check-InGood access, several good outlets for RVs of all sizes. A couple spots that would fit several rigs together in a group. Got good cell and internet on AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.
Report Check-Infound a site .5 short or the pinned site. left had side passed the trail head. t- mobile has good service. the Mexican restaurant in town we really good.
Report Check-InSo many awesome spots off this road and if you take the spur road off to the right there are more great options! The second one in has gorgeous views of the mountains and valley below. Most of these have room for more than one car or a slightly larger rig. You can see the highway down below you but it’s far enough away the cars look like ants. :) Here on a Wednesday/Thursday in November and we are the only ones in the area, though this is only 30 minutes outside of Durango. Cell service with ATT is strong and the road in was in exceptional condition. Super simple, beautiful place to call home for a day or two.
Report Check-InStayed here last night. Pulled in after dark. Easy to navigate with lots of places to camp. Suitable for most vehicles and RV’s. Cell service available and it was quiet. Pretty fall colors with the scrub oak.
Report Check-InMy Garmin tried to take me on the wrong road to this place. If you are coming here, make sure to come via Madden Peak Road. It is a good gravel.road.
Report Check-InVery nice and quiet place, a part on grass. Good gravel road. Beautiful view.
Report Check-InWould have been cool. Season is from Late May to November something, gate blocks main road otherwise. One or two vehicles in the turnaround outside the gate could camp.
Report Check-Inwide flat spot with nice view.
A few more spots farther down the road, but the road narrows and it becomes more difficult to turn around.
