Stayed the night. I think they are becoming more commercialised. They started by asking for a donation. This quickly became a fee of 10,000 which we agreed to which then became 25,000 which we didn’t agree to. Paid 10k in the end. Otherwise, very nice and best place to stay if you need to in Luozi (which is quite likely).

You can also change money in town but rate didn’t seem very good (3.8 Congo franc to 1CFA).

We arrived quite late (9pm) and were kindly allowed to stay on their parking lot for free. So we at least ordered two beers (from the tap (!)). There are toilets we were allowed to use and a water hose. Little noisy from the highway, but safe and clean.

a spot for camp by the beach, right out the beach entrance, next to a house. by the time I stay here, the water tap is deactivated and there is no one in the house. anyway, there are some many other spots and campings in the area.

Really good and affordable Indian restaurant, right across the street from Protea Hotel. Safe parking right in front of the restaurant. It's a small and cosy place, clearly used by the local expats a lot. Buzzing and busy; in weekends and on public holidays you might want to reserve.

Embassy of South Sudan. They are open 9-5 Monday through Friday. Consulate is open 9-1 Monday to Thursday, but they were willing to issue us visas on a Friday afternoon.
$160 for a tourist visa- US passport. 10000UGX bank fee. 4 days processing. 100000UGX fee for express same day visa.
They just wanted 1 passport pic, hotel booking, and a bank statement. Then we filled out a 1 page application form.
They didn’t tell us about the UGX charges initially, so We ended up applying for Evisas instead as it was easy to apply for, but $192 if you pay with a card.

We went here to get our TIP extended. We don’t have a CDP.

They told us that it isn‘t possible anymore and now we have to get the IM5. That’s a document where you have to leave a 16% deposit of the value of the car which you can claim back later. It’s a warranty that you take the car out of the country again.

We got the car valued at a Jeep dealer ship in town. Don’t be afraid of it. Our car was only valued at 6500 USD. It’s worth way more 😉

The agent to get you the IM5 is next door on the right in the yellow building. He charged us 1500 N. His name is Deon.

To get to these buildings first of all you have to enter from the North of this road (it’s a one way). There is a gate which will be opened. Then you cross the old train station. Don’t hesitate to pull up at the gate! It’s the right way.

Great adventure and perfect with kids. We did the boat trip to the gorillas only and it was 1,5 hours. We payed 195‘000 for two adults and two kids.
We couldn’t see one of the big gorillas in the afternoon so we were invited to do another tour the next morning for free. Wow!
Be careful after rain, cause the 12km offroad track could be difficult.
We parked at the visitor parking (place for two cars) and spent one night.

We got here after dark on a Thursday and got the last spot. Vault toilet clean with lots of fresh tp. Four bars of 5G ATT. Quiet. The overlook is pretty.

Nice little area with high rope course, playground and other activities. You can spend here some time.

Pasamos 2 noches muy tranquilas en esta estación de servicios. Pudimos cargar agua al motorhome.

New Hotel. Really nice rooms for only 20,000 TSH including breakfast. New furniture. Comfortable beds with a ceiling fan. New clean western toilet with warm water (but pressure is low).
Ideal for cyclists if they are tired between Kigoma and Uvinza or if the rain comes.
No WiFi

Great place and good prices. Stayed in a tent site (van) with electric and shared water pump for $25. Hot showers and wifi. Signal was good from my spot A6, close to bathroom. Don’t think I’d like it when its busy as spots are quite close but i was practically alone in April.

nice and comfortable hotel. Pretty clean and had AC, a fridge, nice shower and bathroom. My wheel broke on the motorbike and the owner, Ali, was so helpful taking us around town getting help. We were very grateful. The breakfast was good. bread omelette tomatoes, we could pull our motorcycles inside the gated area in front to park so they were secure. Lobby has really cool antiques to look at too. 60,000 dinar the other two places we found one became a boarding house for students and the other wanted 100,000 so this was a great option. There’s insane shawarma ten minutes down the street too

Here is a gate for the Botanical gardens, with a parking place.
From here you can walk in about 15 - 20 minutes to the other side through some plants and trees.

We had a reasonably quite night between 11/12pm and 7pm. The parking strip along the playground seems to be a meeting point for groups. There was some noise from them talking and some background music in the evening.
Around 6am there was a bit of background music again. The loud Zumba music with instructions was from 7 to 8am.

We didn’t manage to connect to the free WiFi.

If you’re having any kind of electrical issues with your car this is the place to go.

Shop has 15 years experience and is a father, mother, son operation. The amazingly clean and well equipped shop is operated out of their home.

Hours are M-F 7:30 to 12 and 1:30-6:30.

Very large paying campsite since this year because of the very strong increase in the electricity price by the new president (300%), 6000 pesos for 1 motorhome, 1000 per person for 1 tent. Excellent wifi.
