You can find a quiet, large, flat spot away from the lake and the road. Directly in front of this ancient, completely overgrown city, of which there is not much left to see, there is a walk through the ruins, but a walk through this jungle is magical you feel like a prince in front of Sleeping Beauty's castle.

As stated, pretty quiet for a spot in town, we were not the only boondockers, so it felt safer. Bring some earplugs for planes/cars that come and go/attention-seeking kids who think it's funny to come and honk at midnight just to wake up the campers. We were in a roof top tent and it went well.

Water was not clean, lots of suspended material. Would not recommend. There is a toilet in the building, but filthy.

Good dry cleaner, we paid 30.000 for a large bag. Was finished the same day.

Price of P130 pppn is fair for campsite itself, the access to the main lodge facilities a bonus. Reception was very friendly and helpful.

If you come without reservation, ask reception which sites are empty to choose from and walk around: sites are all very different. I took site 18, with shade, good wifi access and trees to put up a hammock in between. Bushbucks and warthogs may walk up right to your tent, friendly though.

We spent 1 night 1 block to the left here in low season. We didn’t have any issues, but got some scowls from locals as we drove around and didn’t feel particularly welcome. Washrooms were open and clean. This town is pretty dilapidated, not worth a visit in our opinion unless you need somewhere to stay.

Construction has been completed at this Walmart. I stay here on occasion coming through Clovis onward to Albuquerque. Most of the time there are only one or two other nomads around. It’s very quiet in the morning, and the birds start singing… Not a bad place for a night or two.
