Real deal. Exit is right at marker km84. Google maps from iOverlander puts you too far south. After descending the hill head all the way left to the last spot with a pile of pink scallop shells at the back. Killer view. Worth the mesquite scratches? That’s up to you. Probably 10 or more spots. Was one other van there when we were there.

Great gas station to sleep in! Super equiped, perfect to park with your motorhome. The staff is super friendly and generous. They have a convenience store that’s open until 10 pm and the bathrooms are great. Super clean and near, with hot showers and very tidy. There’s a small place on the left where they make very good sandwiches that don’t cost much. It was a calm night and we felt super secure.

almost everything north of Spence hot springs is buried under a few feet of snow. you can chance it and camp in “day-use only” spots like picnic areas and trailheads but that’s up to you.

between Santa Fe and the hot springs there’s basically nowhere dry to camp for free. i had to head up to Cuba for a good spot with service.

very tricky to camp near the hot springs in winter!

Met a couple who had to pay 1.5 Mio for not having a license. They chased me down as soon as they saw me passing by further North. Showed them a copy of my international license. They brought me to the police station and showed me a lot of paperwork about driving safely - - as if we would be the ones who drive like maniacs. Showed them the original license and they let me go.

I guess they especially go for bikers with bags as there were many foreigners on local bikes without bags.

This place is magical! Definitely a must see in Angola. You can easily spent some days. We saw only one car during our 3 days. Just be careful on scorpions we saw one, and if it's raining better to not sleep in the middle but on the top of a hills. It's sandy but not too much. Easily doable with a 4x4.
Very nice place to do some pictures. Enjoy!

Place for gas, water, grocery restaurant and open area for camping dessert and mountain water available in every farm. You will find it in towers and waterline underneath it free and you can’t ask for help from anybody.

Sadly it is abandoned, no running water for sinks, toilets and showers. The place is looking dirty with rubbish. Location is correct. white little house next to a park and water front.

Whole camp reportedly fully booked for the year by someone but they said at Twee Rivieren reception that I could pay for the “overflow” site and if any of the campsites were unoccupied at gate close then I could take that. I did that and managed to stay at campsite 2. Lovely and quiet with great sunset. Friendly jackal came to visit. Nice outdoor shower with ok pressure. Heard a lion “contact calling” early evening. Sounds of spotted eagle owl and barn owl. Besides the booking uncertainties I will visit again.

$10 us for an evening visit, starting at 4:30 p.m. There is a very interesting museum about half way up. For the volcano at the top, I advise to go there in the light of day and to stay at the top until dark in order to fully appreciate the view. It is a magnificent sight to see the lava bubbling within the crater at night. Binoculars make the show even more impressive! There is a small hike up but the view doesn't offer anything more than the two lookouts from the parking lot. We slept at the entrance of the parking lot after, for free.

Great spot just off the main highway, so some noise but quiet overnight. The bathrooms were closed while we were there, so we walked to the Fuel coffee shop about a block away. No one bothered us, but we got some curious stares from passing neighbors.. We chose a different spot in front of an abandoned house somewhere else in town for the next night.

it's really a beautiful place.. we spent one night here.
when we just camped our van, 2 other vans/cars showed up. luckily there was place for the 4wheel drive on the beach, so that we could stay on the harder grounds. the other van parked a few meters away.
the water was really freezing, but o so beautiful.
we had a quiet night.

Fabulous place! There is a grassy flat parking area where you can park up your camper, or put up a tent under the shade of a tree. Then there’s a path leading about 50m through gorgeous tropical garden down to a waterfall with a large natural pool to swim in. On our first day the water was very murky as it had rained upstream but by the next day it was much clearer. There is a clean toilet with a bucket flush, a covered area with a table and benches and decent WiFi.
The best bit is the lovely family who own this place. Alexander speaks good English and is keen to chat, and is looking for ideas on how he can continue to improve the site for campers. 25Q per person.

Bon endroit pour dormir gratuitement après la visite de nuit du volcan. Sécuritaire, assez tranquille même si près de la rue et il y a des toilettes accessibles toutes la nuit. Gardien sur place.

Good place to sleep for free after the volcano night tour. Safe, quite quiet even if close to the street and there are toilets accessible all night. Caretaker on site.

Winter overnight camper parking at Kimberly Alpine Resort. We stayed 2 nights midweek, incredibly chill. A few other vans/truck campers but we have a trailer and there was plenty of room. No amenities but good cell service and the ski hill is 2min walk for the lifts, coffee shop, cafeteria, etc. I have seen this place on a busy holiday weekend and it’s hard to find parking but there’s the usual 4PM empty parking lot if you’re patient. Ski bums, this spot is ideally for you. Passers-through could safely spend a chill night here if needed.
Directions: when approaching the resort, turn right at the big Kimberly Resort sign and then another right quickly after through a neighborhood of nice fancy houses. Follow that road down through the ski base and up into the upper lot, where the road dead ends. Keep snow removal procedures in mind when parking.

Small loop road just inside the boundaries of the NF with excellent views. OK Verizon service but I wouldn't rely on it for calls. The entrance on the southside wasn't difficult in a Promaster although it's very banked at the start

Stayed here for the WRTR. The dirt roads are easy to navigate, but if you continue further on the paved road it gets really rough. A lot of space for camping, fairly busy but for the most part everyone was decently spaced out & noise levels weren't bad. Started to get really crowded with the beginning of RTR. Good TMobile coverage, speeds slowed as more and more people arrived to town.
