We drove on part of the 20A, the road is very recent. We have never seen such a beautiful road to Peru. Quickly it's time to take the first track on the left! Besides, the JU-101 track is in very good condition.

We stopped a little further along the Laguna Huacra. The spot was wonderful but we did not feel warmly welcomed. First a shepherdess asked us to leave but finally accepted that we stay one night. Then at nightfall 2 men, including an army (guard), made us a whole sketch that it was a very dangerous region, that we were going to kill us and that we had to go as quickly as possible to sleep in the village. After 20 minutes of discussion they ended up leaving and leaving us alone. The night was very calm. The next morning at 6 am the same guard came to see if we were fine. I do not know what they are doing in the surroundings but maybe we have to sleep better a little further even if the region is superb!

Lugar tranquilo e muito bonito. Infelizmente tem muito lixo no local e uns idiotas colocaram música alta no final da tarde, me obrigando a mudar a barraca de lugar para ficar longe deles. Felizmente foram embora no início da noite

CAMPSITE DOESNT EXIST

We tried to find it, but didn’t have any luck. We asked around and no one seemed to know what we were talking about. It probably doesn’t exist anymore, since the previous posts are pretty dated. We ended up staying on a piece of land by the road, up La Riviera de Gocta.

The very nice owner of this beautiful hotel let us stay on a piece of his land. Ask for Telesforo (I think) at the hotel and ask him about a piece of land for you to camp on. Then, you take the road going right (vs the Camino to the fall that goes left).

We had a nice little spot with an awesome view, access to water, toilet and shower (sooooo cold) and stories from one of the first guides to the fall! Highly recommended!

Large dirt parking lot next to Conoco. Big enough for our truck and 29’ fifth-wheel. Stayed here one night, no one bothered us. There were a few cars when we got here. Some road noise but not bad. Husband didn’t want to try cracker barrel or Walmart because of street lights. He wanted something a bit darker and out of the way and this fit the bill.

Well as we were leaving we realized there are signs posted saying “day time use only”. There is a trailhead at one end of parking lot so this is probably meant to be parking for the walking trail which probably closes at dusk? Or maybe the signs mean don’t leave your car here overnight unattended?? There was a vancamper and a semi truck parked there with us when we woke up. Anyways, no one told us to leave and we got a good nights sleep but I’m not sure if sleeping here overnight is allowed but I don’t know how to delete this spot now. Stay at your own discretion.

Nice little free campground but don’t expect much… no hookups but hey it’s FREE! Stayed one night. Good place to pull in, sleep and get back on the road in the morning. Arrived after dark and almost all the spots were taken but everyone was pretty quiet. Worst part was the trains that were going by all night but other than that it was perfect.

At the south of this nature reserve is a large salt lake. This informal campsite is next to the official information sign. 5 km south is a border post. We drove via Senek. I added our route to openstreetmap but I will share it with you on request also.
The road was not to bad but to bring a shovel is not a bad idea. There is almost no traffic so bring enough food and water for emergency purposes. The spot is a big reward.

A good experience for me too ! But to note, there are only three chimps left, one went on her way to Liberia...

I phoned the director a few days ahead, he kindly asked that I call back the morning of my arrival date, which I did. I took a moto taxi from Nzerekoré (100,000 GNF). The night at the center cost 70,000, the room is fairly clean and there's 24h electricity. No running water but you have a big bucket and the well is 20m away. I ordered dinner in the morning, cost me 60,000 GNF, was OK. I brought my own breakfast. The excursion cost 500,000 GNF. I paid everything the day of my arrival.

I was lucky that there was a researcher on site when I was there, because this meant the chimps had been tracked every day for two weeks. Still some guides left very early in the morning to go look for them. Then me and another guide set off to go where they'd seen them. Took about an hour to walk, pretty intense and extremely muddy in some places, but I'm no athlete and I survived ;) We mostly saw one chimp, he was chilling in a tree pretty close by. We stayed with him for an hour, then came back.

The guys at the camp were nice and welcoming. A little confusing at times, like I had to ask several times who I had to pay, what time we'd leave in the morning and it wasn't always clear (and I'm a native French speaker...). So don't hesitate to ask questions until you understand what's happening, my experience is that they work in good faith.

Overall a cool experience :)

Stayed two nights. Poured rain for two straight days and nights. We were the only campers and enjoyed the covered area. Clean, quiet and nice.

We arrived after dark and they let us in. There is a bell on the gate.

FR89 has plenty of spots to camp. We continued on past the spot marked on the iOverlander map and passed several RVs and camps. Found a beautiful spot with a view of the lake and what feels like a desert garden! An old atv trail goes off into the ‘garden’ and makes it easy to wander. Firepit, lots of level area and room in this particular spot for several rigs. We’re in a 1 ton truck towing a 25 foot trailer and had no issues with the road. Passed over the cattle guard to reach this spot.

This campsite is amazing right in between a lava flow and the summit of Cono Mayo. I was the only one here but it is big enough for several rigs.

The reserve itself is sooo beautiful, probably the most amazing place I have seen sofar travelling Mexico for 4 month already.

Is used by fisherman mostly. Is next to the Teton river. Up to 10 days stay. They have fire pits and pit toilets. No other amenities available. Pet friendly. Depending on the season big rigs can show up. We have a 4x4 trailer and we had to put it on 4L for a min to position our trailer. It is April and they had a thunderstorm last week. Snow is still on the ground but otherwise is a very cool FREE camp.
