There is a sign for the restaurant that states 24hr Truck and RV parking. Currently parked here and there is a motorcoach parked on the street staying overnight. Easy access off of Hwy 5.

A little bit run down but a nice backpacker hostel with a small courtyard, free breakfast buffet and a small courtyard to park a couple of motorbikes.
Prices for one person:
$22 private room with shared bathroom
$25 private ensuite
$29 private ensuite with AC
$3 to park a motorbike inside
Dorms are around $15 but I'm not sure exactly.

Does not fill gas bottles, only exchanges bottles with Peruvian connection.

I planned to stay here but found the entry road so beat up, I turned back. Perhaps it was just the entry, but I was not willing to gamble. wouldn't try this in anything less than an off-road vehicle.

Wonderful flat spot with a view. No one came by. Awesome.

Fenced area around a radio tower where you could set up camp. Locals told us lions and elephants were roaming around in this area. So it might be a safe option. You could also lock the gate with your bicycle lock.

Very very clean place, lots of machines. No wifi

As mentioned, big sport area with parking close to center city. We arrived late and there was nobody at the entrance, but the guy came in the morning to collect the 50 pesos.
It is quite noisy but we felt safe.

Gran parking para camiones. Los baños y duchas están muy bien. Al ser un parking donde paran muchos camiones es un poco ruidoso durante toda la noche.

Sadly its no longer available. We will be looking for a near place for all the Overlanders to have a camping spot near Cartagena with Coloverland

Several places along this street to get SIM cards. It is worth shopping around. We went to this pinned place first and were quoted 1200 TL for 20 GB and told that was the only package for tourists. We walked down the street and got 25 GB for 1000 TL, good for a month. Still expensive but a little less than the first place.

The RV park in front of Silver Springs state park allowed us to get water from them for our camper van. They have bathrooms as well and hook ups a for RV. They are super sweet please ask at the front desk and pay for their resources if they let you stop by.

Great spot to spend a night or 2! The family was very warm and welcoming! The brother of the owner Caesar, even gave us a bag full of oranges! You camp close to the river Wi-Fi sort of reaches by the BBQ area!

Super clean beautiful spot! The family that owns it is constantly cleaning! One of the best night of sleep in a long time! Super dark, super quiet! We were there during the week, so according to previous posts I am not sure what it’s like on the weekends!

Have not been here yet. Pulling these coords fro, The Dyrt. Planning to check it out later this month.

We were here during the off-season / rainy season and found very few wild camping options in this area. The campground drains well, and there’s no standing water near the sites.

The showers are hot, there are laundry facilities, accessible bathrooms, dump station, potable water & electricity.

The RV pads are asphalt & mostly level with picnic tables and fire rings.

The campground is pet friendly. However, the trails are wildlife areas and pets are not allowed.

This was a great place to stop as we are traveling through.

A life saver, most dump stations are shut until Mid-May. This dumpstation is on the right side of the car park as you drive in. There is hatched paint marks on the floor. No water. 47.356723,-68.228340 for better coordinates.

the price was 400 for a room now. I could have my bicycle inside the reception area.

From the description below I was expecting something better. But for the price of 5,000 I can’t complain.

Note: bring own beding, towels, loo paper, and for me, my pillows. There is one sheet on the bed that covers the mattress. The pillows were dirty.

I also put up my own mosquito net.

For me it was a cheap one night stay. It’s a shame, with a little effort this could be a damn nice overlander stop.

The approach is up a dirt track from a dirt road.

Must have been a grand place in its heyday.

This is now an official checkpoint both north and south bound today, with uniformed individuals. We had our paperwork ready and they waived us through.

Es una parcela al costado de la calle que se entra por un sendero y tiene un gran terreno con vistas a la montaña. Hay algunas sombras donde se puede acampar.

Just an Auchan that’s practical if you stay in the city!

You can buy a ticket in the Boutique from the petrol station with visa card and then fuel up.

Carnet de passage can be stamped here!

They need a copy of your passport and of the vehicle documents.
You need to show your passavant and local insurance.

You enter the building, go to the right and up the stairs. On the first floor you need to knock on the first door in the hallway. Here is the office!

Apparently they moved here at the beginning of April 2024 but are here to stay ;)

Right next to highway and railway which is busy all night long.
Doesn’t look used anymore. Power all disconnected plus being there in April not in season. Good for a quick overnight stop. Plenty of people stop and let their dogs out for a run but we were the only ones overnight.
Garbage bins available and there was quite a lot just littered around so we cleaned it up.

Senegal - Mauritania

Easy as always. We spent the night directly in the border area. Toilets were open when we arrived, but closed during the night.
There is an official pricelist (of 2018) for the bridge toll: motorbikes 4000, cars 10.000, trucks up to 10to 20.000.
Change CFA to Ougouiya before you leave, you will need it! Take screenshots of the NEW bills and compare. Good 4G network with Orange if you forgot. Senegalese money changers want to give you old bills for the old exchange rate.
Visa for Mauritania 55€.
You can buy insurance and simcard for Mauritania at the border, but we didn’t because it seemed too expensive.

NEXT TIME YOU DECIDE TO CLOSE FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, PLEASE ADD A POST ONTO THIS SITE TO SAVE US FROM A WASTED JOURNEY (AND VERY DISAPPOINTED AFTER WEEKS ON THE ROAD TRAVELLING NORTH). OPENING AGAIN ON 22/4/23.

Free dump station next to a campsite. We visited off season so the campsite was not open and flushing water was switched off for the winter. Not sure if you would have to pay when campsite is open but a local told us it was ok to use in April.
