Amazing wildcamp with impressiv sunset and night sky. Nicki, the manager of the total four sheep farms in the area wellcomed us warmly at his „camp spot“. It seemd to be a quite frequented ouverlander sleeping place. He even asked us, if we need something from the town and sugested to jump over the fence to enjoy the sunset on the dune. We had a perfectly quite and safe night there.

Great space, there is a little steep road down to the river, so watch out RV or low clearance. Many fire pits.

EXCUSE THE LONG WRITE-UP:
After checking all the options in town we came here and booked a passenger balsa with the company hmnavegacao.com through an agent named Tiago. Like everything else, prices have gone WAY up since the pandemic. We paid 4500 reales in total. We have a big pickup camper. We basically went for the first class stateroom with a private balcony, on suite bathroom/shower and A/C. We also have all meals included. You can save maybe 1000 reales by not including a cabin or meals. The other balsas were full of cargo trucks, had no amenities, and much slower. 5-8 days instead of only 3 for passenger one. The cargo barges also weren’t much cheaper. They allowed us to sleep on the pier with our vehicle the first night. Then they loaded us the next day and we spent 3 nights sleeping in our cabin on the vessel. So we saved a lot of money on hotels. I would say it’s almost impossible to get on a barge at the last minute unless you’re very lucky. Plan on staying in Porto Velho for at least a few days waiting for deck space if you have have a larger vehicle. We will update after we get to Manaus.

UPDATE FROM MANAUS:
So I took a few days to process the trip before writing this review. It took 3 days almost exactly like they promised, so that was good because any longer would have been unbearable. So let’s start with the food. It was really horrible and almost inedible and they really had no set meal times. They promised us a BBQ steak lunch on Sunday. It was good meat but not nearly enough available and we left hungry still. So bring your own food and avoid getting sick. The cabin we had was with A/C that worked great. Once out on the river the breeze is refreshing so it’s not bad sleeping in your vehicle if that’s what you plan on doing. About sleeping, we didn’t do much of that. This is a working boat and as such they made many stops along the way to drop/pickup passengers and freight. Every square inch of the vessel was loaded to capacity and then some. We were so overloaded that they swamped their little dingy tied to the stern and it sank. Then we started taking waves over the bow and the bottom deck got flooded and they were forced to slow down. Some of the stops were in the middle of the night and were very noisy. There was a bar/discoteca on the roof with VERY loud music from about 10am to 10pm. Lots of bright lights so no star gazing after sunset. I don’t think the passengers in hammocks slept at all. There was tons of onion bags on board so between that and the people who didn’t shower for days, it got pretty stinky. And the showers used muddy river water so don’t plan on feeling squeaky clean, but it’s better than nothing. The scenery was nice, but there were lots of farms, houses, gold mining house boats, etc. So not really a jungle experience. Between that and the price to travel up here, you really have to ask yourself if it’s worth it. I definitely wouldn’t do it in rainy season. We are now looking at ferries to Belem..

no one at the ticket booth to check my america the beautiful pass. instructions for camping was to find a spot, park, then return to the kiosk and pay for the night. it was only $8 a night, no water, pit toilet, trash drop off, caves were closed. very hot during the day I parked at the closed visitor center and sat under tree shade to cool off during the heat of the day.

Really lovely camp ground with amazing views of the mountains and near a nice stream. There are private campsites at designated sites and a larger circular campground with a bathroom. There are fire pits and a small ranch road nearby. I would highly recommend this spot!

We were there and it was great fun. We were a mixed group, about 20 people, young and old, from many different countries. The atmosphere is relaxed and you can leave at any time. It's not compulsory to speak only English for an hour and then only Spanish for an hour. Great way to meet new people and learn languages.

If you’re heading north you’ll see the back of the sign and it says “skull was here”. Parking for 2 big rigs immediately as you pull off, parking further back along 2 separate short roads not big rig friendly. Very little traffic being so close to the road. None after dark. Checks the boxes

Tried getting there but it is really sandy, we got stucked and had to get helped by some neighbors. If you come here, park at the really beginning of the beach where the sand is tough. However, would clearly not recommend getting there : we met 2 neighbors and both told us it could be pretty dangerous to spend the night there as there are robberies. One of the neighbors offered us a place to park in his garden instead.

Very nice campground! USD21 if you don’t need electricity. Lots of trees, so we’re not able to use Starlink. The park is beautiful! Couldn’t find any free places to spend the night close by, so ended up in the campground.

Lots of camp sites available for our 1 night stay. Lots of big trees for shade, although was a little muddy in well worn areas (like the doorway areas at each site) after a good rain. Bathrooms clean and convenient. After hours check in easy. Lots of space to walk the dogs. We hooked up power and water. Primitive areas are big grass lot. Beautiful countryside and quick drive to main entrance to see the giant KY Horse Park.

this lace is nothing special but it is good spot to stay a night on your way from Atyrou to beyneu.

coming from Atyrou take a right when you see a few buildings on your left. drive between the two little sand hills. you'll see a bit of a dip in the terrain that provides some shelter.

not completely invisible from the road but especially in the dark nobody will notice you.

there is some trash around unfortunately.

We stayed two nights 2p and motorhome and paid ARS 4,000 per night. We were also able to use washing machine of owner for ARS 1,000. Perfect safe location close to San Juan. Taxi to center ARS 1,500. Hot shower. Hot water at sink. All very clean. Plenty of space to relax in garden. Large BBQ. In summer swimming pool. Not big. Max 3 small motorhomes (pick-up) i guess. Not for big rigs. WiFi ok.

Spent 3 nights here. The pit toilet mentioned in an earlier post was a little difficult to spot at first. There is a sign that points you to it, but it is now inside the woodline instead of just outside it as seen in photos here. If you stand facing the sign for the trail, you’ll find the toilet path over your left shoulder.
As mentioned in earlier posts, it’s totally open so if anyone else is around the trailhead, they’ll definitely see you using it.
During my stay, I only saw 3 other vehicles pull into this area. 2 took to the trail and then left within a few hours and the last was someone from nps there to mow the grass around the road. No one said anything about me being there.
Bug spray is a must! And flea/tick prevention for your pups if you have them. I was constantly finding ticks on me and my 3 mutts despite my spray and their preventative.
