Description

There’s a large flat area near where the Kab-Ash trailhead is, hidden from the road by a nice row of trees. There’s plenty of room and a U shape turn around back to the main road so you don’t have to worry about backing out. We were here from 4 pm - 10 am and only 2 cars drove by. Also there’s a pit toilet here- although it’s very, open. Bring your own toilet paper if you plan on using it.

Latest Check-Ins

Spent 3 nights here. The pit toilet mentioned in an earlier post was a little difficult to spot at first. There is a sign that points you to it, but it is now inside the woodline instead of just outside it as seen in photos here. If you stand facing the sign for the trail, you’ll find the toilet path over your left shoulder.
As mentioned in earlier posts, it’s totally open so if anyone else is around the trailhead, they’ll definitely see you using it.
During my stay, I only saw 3 other vehicles pull into this area. 2 took to the trail and then left within a few hours and the last was someone from nps there to mow the grass around the road. No one said anything about me being there.
Bug spray is a must! And flea/tick prevention for your pups if you have them. I was constantly finding ticks on me and my 3 mutts despite my spray and their preventative.

nice place to stay. room for maybe a couple rigs. offset from the road by a stand of trees so you hear road noise but the road is not heavily trafficed. It's off to the side of the U shaped parking area for the trailhead. It is mostly shaded, so dont expect much solar power. stayed here for a few days while visiting the NP, no issues.

Thousands of mosquitoes and horse flies. But a quiet spot. Was just me parked there for the night

Report Check-In

While it was a quiet, secluded spot to sleep, the bugs were so pervasive that I could hardly step outside the van and/or walk my dog. Also, the trails are essentially all grown over. The kab-ash trail itself barely goes more than 50ft from the trailhead. And I couldn’t even see where the previous poster was talking about a trail to the right. Ended up leaving super early and driving to the park visitors center to walk my pup. I did have usable t-mobile service though.

gorgeous, woodsy, quiet and flat. slept so well. make sure you take the trail ro the right of the marked trail to get some edible mushrooms.
