Place changed owners in 2022 and is now called the “Wandering Monkey”.
Stayed here two nights but won’t come back again.
Water is not working for large parts of the day/night. Which also means no flushing toilets. Outlets at bunks barely work and no storage space for top bunks.
On top of that there are a lot of longtimers here ranging from 20 to 70 years old who don’t seem to care about others sleep quality.
The location and rooftop are nice though.

Great hostel run mostly by volunteer travelers. Secure parking for a few motorcycles inside the front gate, clean pool and laundry facilities, 2 kitchens cleaned daily, and a sweet rooftop with BBQ, loungers, hammock, and swinging bed- great spot for sunrise and sunset! Also very good wifi throughout the hostel (weak on the roof)
Also rents out kayaks for 200peso/day (rental places on the beach are 900/day). 20min walk to the beach, 20min paddle to isla de venados

This is a place, which deserves 110% the term hostel! The staff and volunteers were super friendly and welcomed me with an open heart and beer! 😍 Beds, bathrooms, the two kitchen and pool were perfectly clean!! Very big community area and a wonderful roof terrace makes it easy to get in touch with the other guests! Everywhere are stunning paintings and a safe place to park my motorcycle makes this place one of my overall favorite hostel! Everybody who likes to party and tell/listen to stories from all over the world should come to Mazatlan and stay at the Funky Monkey Hostel! 🤪😘

The staff are incredible. The vibe was super hospitable. We felt welcomed immediately. The crew staying here were awesome. Friendly and fun. The staff are very knowledgeable of sick things to do around the area. The hostel is laid out beautifully. Plenty of share rooms to meet new and awesome people. If you prefer some solo time they offer private rooms. This hostel was extremely helpful and we felt super comfortable. Great hostel! Highly recommended :)

Report Check-InGreat hostel. It is well organized and well run. Nice safe neighborhood. There is a big driveway with secured parking and gate which was great for storing and working on the motorcycles.
Report Check-InThe crew at Funky Monkey reached out to us on FB after I posted some questions in a FB group. They were more than happy to provide us with secure street parking and electricity, as well as full use of the indoor facilities including the pool. A super great bunch of people, great wifi, and daily activities if you care to partake. It was a great week!
