Description

Make your way to West Almond NY and enter Palmer's Pond via South Road - or North Road, only.

This is a New York State forest - free camping. During the summer there's sometimes a privy on location and a picnic table. This is a dark sky area and if you're here on a Sunday during the summer make sure to visit Pollywog Holler on North Road, just south. Fab artist spot, serving brick oven pizza.

I do lots of motorcycle and hammock camping in the area - all the state forests have free camping in New York State.

Very nice place. The road to get there is a bit bumpy for big RVs and it’s difficult to find a spot that is level. If you are in a small rig and don’t need strong signal, definitely check it out, it’s beautiful

Report Check-In

No cell phone service so if you need cell phone this is not the place for you.

The main road, Palmer’s Pond Rd. is closed coming from the road closest to the highway. You have to drive around and come in from the east on the same road. It's a very nice campground, very peaceful.

good and quiet place to park. we arrived at night so couldnt really find a good spot like in the picture. but there plenty of pull over you can park

The road on the way is in good condition. Found a spot a little up the road from the pond that is flat and green. Good Verizon service and somehow a couple channels on the TV too.

Great spot not far from the highway. Still a little bit of highway noise, but not bad overall. We arrived after dark and located the original spot close to the pond. It it was pretty wet since it rained a few days ago. The spot on the right closer to South Rd was much more dry so we stayed there. Little to no other traffic, but it was the end of November, just a few cars coming through in the morning that looked to be going hunting.

We accessed it through South Rd off Karr Valley & Turn pike rd. We initially used Palmer’s pond road off Karr Valley but it looks like it was blocked off? We took the big site which was flat and had a fire pit. Nice and quiet.

Nice spot. We were the o lu ones there. We drive a 36ft converted school bus and there was plenty of room

Report Check-In

Nice spots on pond. The water sites were all taken but we found a nice open clear area with a fire ring just up the road. Slept well with dark skies and woke to the sound of birds chirping in the morning.
