Great camping if you want to be in the wilderness but also in close proximity to town. Plenty of spots along Green Creek Canyon road, some with fire rings. Bathrooms at entrance to Green Creek Canyon. Decent AT&T and Verizon signal early on the road, less as you go further up.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
An obvious "day use only" sign in the parking lot and a knock from a cop just before 10pm reminding us just that. Unsure if the areas further up the road are still open for camping as the road is closed here during the winter.
Report Check-InVery busy area on a Friday night, lots of parties going on, toilet was disgusting with a lot of broken beer bottles inside. Some random people parked next to me just to hang out in their car while I was sleeping... I moved!
Report Check-InFantastic place for winter camping. Great groomed trails for cross-country skiing, classic or skate. Also separate trails for fat bikes, snowshoeing or just walking.
Report Check-InWe stayed in the second spot on the left. It was a great spot with lots of room to get level in our van. Unfortunately there is a lot of traffic until about midnight. We also had around 10 cars attempt to drive up into our campsite. They were normal cars not camping type rigs so we assumed it’s locals looking to party. They were all nice but we would not return. If you need a place to sleep it’s great but not a place to chill at camp peacefully.
Report Check-InThere is a stray domestic rabbit hanging around this campsite. It wouldn’t let me handle it but it’s pretty friendly. If you can catch it, please take it into town to the animal shelter. I’m sure it’s somebody’s Easter bunny that got dumped when they lost interest.
Report Check-InThis is a pretty canyon but the noise and traffic level is like staying in a busy campground - loud groups going by from 5am until well after dark, cars passing, dust from the road, etc. And that was on a weekday! It’s a good spot for convenience, just not for solitude.
Report Check-InGreat overnight stopover. Got snowed on. I'll bet this place gets crowded on weekends.
Report Check-InThis really is a great spot close to town. From the winter gate the easy to navigate dirt road goes about 4 miles. There are camp spots along the road and at the end. Fairly large turn around, then the road does continue past another gate. A bit rougher up there. Mountain biking trail parallels the road and gets lots of use. The creek was dried out and it’s a bit hot but seemed to cool off a little at night. Be respectful and leave no trace! (It’s pretty clean for how much use it looks like it gets). In the summer we found trash cans at the winter gate/day use parking spot. There are also pit toilets there.
Report Check-Indry River bed. no water. so pack your own. there are many mountain bikers but they stay on the trail away from the campsites. most sites will hold a small RV van car. quaint little place good for a night or two.
Report Check-InSlept at the trail head because road is closed during the winter. Had a cop knock on my door at about 1 am. Checked ID and said it was fine for me to stay, just was making sure I was alright since it was cold. A little bit of cross country skiing/snowmobile traffic but that died down around 9 pm.
Report Check-InLots of pull offs down this road. Some have fire pits. Not much for big rigs - the road isn’t terrible but in our low clearance van we drove 10mph to avoid rocks and ruts. Very busy with bikes and dogs. Not much in the way of privacy but it’s great for a night
Report Check-InExcellent spot, pit toilets, and not crowded. Lots of runners and bikers on the road in morning.
Report Check-InPerfect for drycamping, early morning bicycling on the dirt road.
