The brown state park sign on the road says this area is called “Mc Connell Creek” and official park land. BLM or similar. (Not affiliated with the rest area by DOT)
Came to your overnight and it was great. Go over the cattleguard that is at the rest area and up the dirt road about a 10th of a mile to where the fence and gate are located. Just to the left of the gate is a grassy/dirt area And has an old fire ring that is currently grown over with grass but could be cleaned up. It was cold overnight at about 30° and the peak of the mountain just behind us has some snow on it here at the beginning of May. Definitely stay here again.
Small dirt road north of the rest stop leads to open area with flat areas. Good nights rest
Report Check-Inlarge rest area that a lot of truckers use. has 2 vaulted toilets & a couple covered picnic tables.
Report Check-InThis is actually a great location! Cool mountain views and some separation from everyone else. Can't hear the highway from where we camped. Highly recommend taking the dirt road, if conditions are favorable.
Report Check-Ingood spot north by fence. Enterance to other side of fence is too narrow for my dually truck camper. Still close to level and great sunset.
Report Check-InRest Area with 2 covered picnic tables trash and out houses. Nice mtn views but close to the not very busy highway. 4 or 5 trucks here when we arrived at about 6pm but we didn't have to park super close so the engine noise wasnt bad. More here this am. Fine for an overnight.
Report Check-InSmall rest stop with dirt road to large flat area to the East. Camped 300 yds from rest stop, no road noise. Mtn view is cool.
Report Check-InSweet spot considering there isn’t many places to camp before or after this point for awhile. Was able to up the dirt road way far away from the road so you can see it but not hear it very much. Fire ring at the spot near the fence road
Report Check-InWe stayed at the actual rest stop... didn’t see a need to venture across the fence, which seemed to have deep water-filled ruts in the road. Had one truck parked next to us with a low hum all night, but it didn’t really bother us. Didn’t hear any traffic until early morning. Smelly outhouses, but they’re there if you need them
