thought the last few descriptions of this place were scattered and confusing, so just wanted to give an update. this store is still open and awesome. had high quality shelf food products that you might need camping. only fresh veggies were some carrots and onions. there was an espresso machine and kuchens although i didnt get any. bathrooms are clean and have showers (not sure if costs). also a gas pump. prices werent excessive for chile and quality products although it wound up being expensive for me because i found so many things i wanted! No clothing or anything like that but they had gas canisters.
bottom line, if you are bummed out by selection in chaiten or (like me) got to chaiten during their afternoon siesta and dont want to wait around for something to open, this mercado is a pretty safe bet. Although they are also closed from 1-3

Pricy stuff but good selection. They had German organic whole-grain bread :-) and some other things you usually don't get in normal tiendas. Very clean toilets.
Report Check-InThey had some special food like German wholemeal bread and Christstollen, but no vegetables/ fresh things. For vegetables she sent us to „las lomas huerto“ / 1 km from here into the direction of Chaitén, opposite side of the road.
Report Check-InUnfortunately closed when we passed here, no gas, no nothing. Looks nice though!
Report Check-InAmazing little shop! Sold some cute little bits and bobs and some food including bacon which we haven't seen for months!!!
Report Check-InGreat supermercado - aqui es posible comprado miel! Que bueno! Gracias!
Report Check-InSmartwool socks! What a treat! Food items seemed about 10% more expensive than usual, but camping and clothing was priced about the same as you would expect to pay in Sydney or Santiago. Great store!
Report Check-InGreat place to restock on groceries and any outdoor or camping gear that you might need. (I found and bought Smartwool socks here!). Large selection of fresh produce plus a wide variety of other foods and beverages. Also has clean bathrooms and a fuel station. Wifi password available for 1,000 pesos (but we didn't try it).
Report Check-InOne stop shopping for everything! Good selection of fresh food and dry goods. Wide range of camping goods, just about anything you might need including stoves (and gas for them), tents, north face rain coats and down coats, and they also sell gas. For $1000 peso you can also use their wifi. Weekdays 0830-2000 weekends 0930-1930.
