Description

From San Luis to El Choco is a rocky and steep unpaved road, you will need 4x4 or a motorcycle to come this way. This is not the regular route to Guatape if Google or a GPS suggests it. 20kms of hard rocky road in bad condition.

Still a rough and rocky road, though it looks like they’re slowly beginning to pave it near San Louis. I enjoyed it quite a lot on my ADV bike, and the rocky stretch only took 45min (under an hour) found myself wishing it was longer. High clearance would still be wise and I’m not sure in a car it would be as much fun. Saw a big truck taking it too which could get interesting in some of the tight corners.

Coming down from El Choco to San Luis took us almost 2 hours for 20 KM. Did not need 4x4, but definitely high clearance needed. Beautiful views.

As said very rough road. Lots of rocks, I would not recommend if not 4x4 and high clearance. The views are great on mountains, river and little pueblos. If you have time then better than the road 60 full of trucks.

Yes it’s rough, I’d say ADV bikes and high clearance 4x4 only everything else… you might not have much fun over this 20kms stretch. If you are riding, I’d recommend you come this way, mostly rock/river stones very little to no mud and definitely beats the slab / trucks! Views are great and the road is not bad on 2 wheels.

Update: Road still rough but definitely passable, and we’ll worth the views and seeing the mountain villages. (especially if you are on a motorbike), We were two up on a fully loaded adventure bike, took it steady from Guatape via Grenada to San Luis to route 60 across to N of Bogota, and had a fantastic time! We saw 4x4s some mad little cars and the occasional big truck the whole route. And Sunday’s no road works! Much better than just route 60 whole way!

Google has completely dropped the ball here. Despite showing it as a yellow roads, the part after San Luis is a nightmare! don't do the mistake I did to take late in order to reach guatape. hard rocky road in bad condition. Damn you Google you ruined a beautiful day!
