great camping!
Here is the parking for the cold water canyon (see other tourist attraction point nearby)
Some parking space on the street before the river crossing.
You need to go up the stream
Pass the fence at the little pass through on the left side of the stream.
Always follow the path till you get to the canyon.
Stay always close to the stream on the left side walking stre⁹am upwards. You never need to go somewhere steep uphill - that's a wrong path.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Se puede dejar el carro o la moto en este punto (sin cruzar el rio) y caminar 100 metros hacía la derecha. Es un sendero que empieza detrás de unas piedras. lleva a un lugar amplio y agradable. Se identifica porque hay una estufa vieja
Report Check-InNot bad place, but the riverside by Don Racas is better for swimming hole and camping I think.
Don Rafa’s being only $5 is a far better place as well. Plus they have facilities
We decided to not stay here, only visited and went back to riverside
Nice camping spot next door. Drive through the river (we did it with our van wich is not an 4x4 in dry season), go left and cross the blue fence entrance. Takes a few minutes until the camping ground. It’s only a small parking slot and a toilet but we were completely on our own. 1.000 colones per person plus 5.000 colones for the entrance to the canyon which is amazing!! Loved it
Report Check-InWe came from La Cruz town and we needed buy food.
On the way (road) there isn't any grocery or supermarket, gas station neither, so if you need buy at the supermarket you have buy in la Cruz or Cañas dulces 4km from the way
We stayed here one night, super quiet and dark night.
First night in Costa Rica. Parked on road with room for vehicles to pass by. Though there’s a better spot across the river, we decided not to risk getting stuck there due to rain overnight. Only saw a tractor going back and forth, and three cyclists in the morning. Other than that, completely quiet and so peaceful. We felt secure. Not far from Liberia and the infrastructure there.
Report Check-InWhen we arrived at 7pm, other overlanders were parked up. We simply drove through the river and parked on the other side. The spot was flat and more spacious. Really special place, especially being able to splash around in the water and watch the howler monkeys above.
Report Check-InFirst time in a while we wild camped but this spot was perfect and felt super safe, we stayed two nights.
Shaded parking right by the water with less than a handful cars (and horses!) passing by during the day. Nice pools for swimming relaxing. The nearby marked tourist attraction is a little misleading, we were not able to walk from our camp site to the canyon. The canyon however is accessible from the Pozas los Coyotes just a little further north.
Can't speak french? Me neither, but the comment below mine is probably something like this: Nice spot, in nature. The river is very rocky, some local people crossed it by car and one lost their bumper. Can camp just in front of the river as there is a flat sand patch.
Report Check-InThis was a magical spot. Busy on the weekend during the day. After sunset it clears out. We were able to park our Ford Transit High Roof Extended but the road in is a bit rough. No need for 4X4 though. We slept to the sound of the flowing stream and woke to howler monkeys in the trees above our van. It was amazing. No services. Please leave no trace.
Report Check-Inparfait pour profiter de la riviere. rekknter le courant pour le canyon super beau. nuit tres tranquille. personne le soir
Report Check-Ingreat place to camp. No one passed by at night. nice water sounds, swimming and howler monkey family
Report Check-InUpdate:
Left hand side access (looking upstream) has been heavily reinforced with barbed wire. To go to the canyon cross the river, walk upstream on the right hand side of the river for about 50m and then cross over to the left hand side. Total walking time 10min.
Alternative, continue on road for 50m after the river crossing to then walk throuh a property who's owner put up signs. Not sure if he charges to walk through his land to the canyon.
Camped in our van next to river crossing. Not a single person or car passed until next morning.
