Description

Camp in the middle of the Verneukpan.
Fetch the key for the gate to enter the pan at the reception from the farm house. If you come from the south, the reception is on your way anyway. The gate to enter the pan is about 5 KM from the reception. The camp itself is about 5 KM from the gate. There are signboards so it’s easy to find.

This place is obviously used as playground for the guys :-)

As the guys like to come here for racing cars and bikes, the set up is also made for partying in the middle of nowhere. Very special.

Modern ablution block.
Besides running water and flushing toilets (4) (even a male and female section) (clean and fairly new)- hot water from a donkey for the 4 showers- you will find a big communal area with a big fire place and bar set up (inkl. Fridge and kitchen sink) and shade. Sandy surface. The whole set up is also protecting nicely from wind and sun. Fridge and Light are running on solar.

It’s like a small open air rockers club in the desert :-)

Camping is 120 pppn.
A bag of wood 10 ZAR.

No signal. Digital detox.

Latest Check-Ins

Nobody was on reception. The site seems abandoned. No Water, completely run down. No reason to stay here

Report Check-In

Strange, weird, wonderful! Far out there, nothing around. Place not well maintained; more or less abandoned - but: water is running, toilets are working, there is light. the water is a bit brackish - but if you are coming here you should be of the self-sufficient type anyway. bring your own... enjoy the pan and an evening in a sort of post-apocalyptic Mad-Max-scenery.

Report Check-In

Dont waste you time visiting! UNLESS one is TOTALLY independant, with ones water for washing, loo and cooking facilites to visit this site - Other than the historic value of this site, and the quietness of the night with stunning nightsky and stars view. the ablution facilities are FILTHY! -

The ablution block has 4 toilets and 4 showers and was filthy!
2 of the 4 toilet seats were broken and only one shower rose worked There was no wood for the for the " donkey" geyser although we were told there was.
Bring wood with, as the wood available is expensive.
The Borehole water available for the shower was black and foul smelling and after getting the donkey fired up, was available in one shower but due to smell and colour decided not to shower.
The Boma area was filthy with no rubbish being cleared for ages.

Even with my dissapointment, a liitle effort on behalf of the owners can make this site AWESOME - nothing can prepare one for the SILENCE and the view of the stars!

We hsd the whole place for ourselves. Heaven! Mr Lospers, the owner checked in on us and we had a lovely chat about his passions. Verneukpan is a playground for some, but also a place of solitude for silent seekers. Nature lovers must put it on their list. Photographers will have a ball. We had full moon, so no star gazing this time around😊. Be prepared to open some gates.

Report Check-In

More like a Fata Morgana than a place where you could actually stay. The nature is stunning, similar to the Makgakikgadi or any other pan, but it can be extremely windy. None of the previously described amenities work, there is no water, no maintenance whatsoever. Very filthy and run down, and still 120 pp. If you can drive to the gate and camp without paying for what is technically a bushcamp, find the key hidden in the tyre by the gate.
