The "bar-restaurant in front" : not clear which, an I was front of what.
Big parking area, according to locals totally safe at least during the week. Nice beach bars just next to it.
Garbage and neighbours , do expect some traffic.
Good Claro reception, no amenities .

Lugar tranquilo, dormimos aquí por más de una semana. La gente del barrio muy amable. Cerca del centro de Montañita pero alejado de los ruidos. Fuera de temporada había muy pocos vehículos estacionados.

quiet, peaceful place, there is a TIA supermarket about 400 meters away on the main street, on the beach in front there is a bathroom with a hot shower for 1 dollar

Lugar calmo, tranquilo, tem um supermercado TIA a uns 400 metros na principal, na praia em frente tem banheiro com chuveiro quente a 1 dolar

Nos quedamos una noche aquí, muy tranquila aunque fue viernes. No sabemos si es porque llovía, tampoco habían mosquitos. Habían otros 4 vehículos de viajeros, nos sentimos bien seguros. Y además, algo alejado de todos los bares y me imagino de la fiesta los fines de semana.

We only slept one night here. Safe and quiet, but there are many (MANY) mosquitoes here, and during the day it is very hot, as the cars are parked on the asphalt and the beach breeze is “stuck” in the beachfront restaurants 🥵

Dormimos somente uma noite aqui. Seguro e silencioso, porém há muitos (MUITOS) mosquitos aqui, e durante o dia faz muito calor, pois os carros ficam estacionados no asfalto e a brisa da praia fica “presa” nos restaurantes em frente à praia 🥵

Ótimo lugar tranquilo e seguro. Local de encontro de viajantes de vários países. Tem um ponto de energia, mas é muito fraco e oscila muito. é melhor não arriscar e queimar algum equipamento. O único supermercado de Montañita está a 300 metros. A praia é de água morna, mas turva e com muitas ondas.

Nice place close to the beach ! Other campers were there too. No shower and no bathroom.
No water tap. Really nice sushi restaurant close by. Sunset view 😍

Update: we stayed 2 weeks the first one we had access to the bathroom and the shower. After one week (it was carnivals and a lot of travelers around) a guy take off the water. So no more shower, bathroom or water. So we had to leave. Maybe if you go in low season you can find them open and working.

Nos quedamos 5 noches, nos encontramos con varios viajeros que van hacia el norte, el estacionamiento es muy amplio y súper tranquilo, incluso los fines de semana.
Hay partes con arbolitos con sombra.
A unos 100 metros aprox.. esta el único supermercado de Montañita de 9 a.m. a 9 p.m. , con baños y WiFi
Les recomiendo comprar las uvas que pasan vendiendo en una camioneta, $1 la bolsita y son uvas Rojas sin semilla, muy buenas.
Hay una cocina comunitaria donde puedes hacer uso de ella, con el horno tienes que pedir permiso para su uso, y buscar tu propia leña. 👌

Stayed here for almost 10 days, there were other overlanders there for much longer. It is a short walk away from the city and feels safe. There are a couple of taps from were to get water.

Seems like the bathrooms are now closed. We talked to a local (Felipe) and he said that the former owners of the bar moved on to Peru and that you now need a key for the baños, which he not have. Otherwise it is a safe and nice place directly at the beach. We parked on the left side of the parking place, because there is light during the night.

LONG BUT IMPORTANT
FREE parking lot in front of the beach, close to the city center. There used to work a bar a few meters down that would allow the use of bathrooms, shower and water for $1. This bar CLOSED a few weeks ago, but the bathrooms and shower remained opened. Since then, the place has gotten disgustinly DIRTY. To the point that the people from the commune came to CLOSE the bathrooms and threatened to shut down the water. A group of van travelers talked nicely to the commune people to please let us keep on using the bathrooms and they accepted, as long as WE maintain the order. So we cleaned the whole place up, which was a complete mess.
So we ask every ioverlander to please be conscious and respectfull of the use of the bathrooms and showers, and to please keep the parking lot clean. Travelers have come to spend two nights and do their caca on the grass right next to the parking lot and leave dirty papers all over.
So this is a PERFECT ioverlander place but its in RISK if we dont act responsibly.

LARGO PERO IMPORTANTE
Estacionamiento gratuito frente a la playa, cerca del centro del pueblo.
Antes funcionaba un bar muy cerquita que permitia el uso de baños, ducha y agua por $1. Este bar CERRO hace unas semanas, pero quedaron abiertos los baños y duchas. Desde ese momento, el lugar se convirtio en un chiquero. Basura por todos lados, los baños asquerosamente sucios y descuidados. Al punto que vino la gente de la comuna a CERRAR los baños y amenazaron con cortar el AGUA. Varios grupos de viajeros que estamos parando aqui actualmente, hablamos con la gente de la comuna para pedir que porfavor nos permitan el uso de los baños y accedieron con la condicion de que NOS HAGAMOS CARGO del mantenimiento. Por lo tanto hicimos una limpieza profunda de todo el lugar que era un desastre absoluto, y actualmente gozamos de estacionamiento gratuito con agua, baños y duchas, que pretendemos cuidar entre todos los que estamos.
Asi que le pedimos porfavor a todos los viajeros que lleguen a este punto (y a todos los lugares!!!) que sean concientes y responsables con el uso de los baños y las duchas, y mantengan limpio el parqueadero. Han pasado viajeros que hacen caca al costado del estacionamiento y dejan papeles sucios tirados por ahí.
ESTE LUGAR ES IDEAL para parar, pero CORREMOS RIESGO DE QUE NOS ECHEN SI NO LO CUIDAMOS ENTRE TODO/AS.

During low season at least this is the best place to stay if you are travelling with a van. The parking is 800meters from the city center and along to the beach. Very quiet and safe, we spent three perfect free nights there. A bar-restaurant in front allows you to use showers, toilets, kitchen and wifi for only 1$ pp.
