Very steep part RP13 | Warning

We drove the road on two fully packey Honda CRF300 Rally. It was no problem with the small bikes, would not ride it with big Bike 1000cc+. Sometimes the ground is verry loose and especially at this part of the road its verry steep.There are allways several options to choose from steep to verry steep. We drove the road from Mendoza to Uspallata.

The regular twisty road is narrow and I would recommend it with a 4x4 and some Offroad experience. Keep in mind the entire road condition of the 13 can change year by year and how much it rains.

the steep part is not doable by car I would say.
My friend did it with his Tenere 700 loaded luggage and Heidenau Scout K-60 tire. but he is an experienced Enduro rider and need the HUEVOS to ride this part with momentum. So you should have done the one and other hill climb. But watch out local Enduro riders came down this section. So don't collide into them.

On my part I did the long scenic route. No Problem :D

We did the RP 13 with our lifted VW T5 4x4. If you drive the 'proper' RP 13 which goes around the mountain, you're ok to drive it with a 4x4 car when it's dry. Don't take the steep road which goes straight up the hill. The road gets narrow sometimes so better don't go with a big rig. it was quiet an experience 😀.

Until this part the road is very good but from here on, do not go with a car! we have 4x4 and are feeling adventurous but from this point on, the road gets too narrow for a car. very good for motorcycle though!

Sehr, sehr schlechte Wegstrecke, viele enge Kurven, steinige Passagen und manchmal weggespülte Teile der “Straße”. mit Wohnmobil die Strecke bewältigt.
Befahrbar nur mit 4x4;

There IS a very difficult section here BUT there is a by pass which goes around it. The 13 is still fairly difficult though, with a 4*4 no problems, by motorcycle there's quite a bit of loose gravel (quite deep in sections).

When heading towards Mendoza the road very suddenly gets very steep and very loose here. Until this point the road is pretty good, so it was a bit of a surprise. After 1 hour i made about 50m progress before giving up and turning round. My tyres (80/20 road/dirt) just couldn't grip. If i had much lower gearing, more aggressive tyres or more talent maybe it would be possible.

Very annoying because if i could get 500m further its downhill all the way!
