Main feature of this State Park in the middle if nowhere is a small manmade lake for fishing (no swimming). There are 3 campgrounds, one with 4 sites next to the Park Office, then 6 sites close to the lake, and a loop with 13 sites with electric hookups. All have picknick tables (covered except in Camp 1), BBQ grills, and water. Some sites are quite closely spaced. Camping is $10, with electric hookup $14. The park is popular on weekends also for family picnics. Most sites in Camp 3 were occupied. But it was very quiet! All roads paved.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Stop #255 Oasis State Park Portales New Mexico. Near the Blackwater Draw Clovis Archeological Site. Full hookups $18 - Electric and water $14 - Primitive Campsites $10 w/ water. Hot showers with rediculous button you have to push every 15 seconds for water. Not the most exciting place, but EXTREMELY clean and well maintained. ADA accessible. At&T signal very low / No wifi / 4g slow.
Very nice park with clean facilities. Only issue is that there are many stock yards in the area and if the wind is right the smell of can permeate the air. There is also a nice little pond for fishing.
Report Check-InHidden Gem For Sure!!! $10/night includes trash in each site, electric & water. Super clean showers. State Park Rangers patrol. There was me, and one other van lifer a campsite over the man made lake was FULL & stocked! Wonderful & quiet night sleep. If it hadn’t been so warm in the area, I definitely would have stayed another night.
Report Check-InPleasent stay for 2 road weary travelers. Has everything you need, hook up (we don’t need those), group camping, play park for the littles. It’s clean and has a hot shower in clean bathrooms and a clean out house as well, $10 for no hook ups, $14 with. Sign says reservations required although we didn’t have one and dropped in on a weekday.
Report Check-InNice small park with well spaced campgrounds. Bathrooms were immaculate and the shower water hot (after a few button pushes). Each site has a trash can. The pond is very low in early 2022 and full of tumbleweeds, actually everything outdoors is full of tumbleweeds.
Report Check-InWe arrived late and did the self check in, $10 basic camping. There were plenty of sites to choose from mid-week. Super quiet campground, all we heard were crickets, frogs, and coyotes all night. Farm smell was blowing in from somewhere but not too bad. The signs made it clear that the water is non-potable due to high nitrate counts. The small lake/pond was made for fishing, so no swimming but it’s cute. Sheltered picnic areas but the grills are taped off due to wildfire danger. We would come again.
Report Check-InNice desert camping. Doves and coyotes all night, quail all day. I’d expect it to be dry and dusty from spring to summer. There are also a lot of feedlots in the area, but we didn’t get any dust or smell during the one night here. Looks like they shut down showers and fire pits for some reason. The non-electric sites are much much nicer if u don’t need power. Fair ATT signal, but solid uploads and downloads with a WeBoost.
