Description

STAY AWAY FROM THIS LIDER AS THERE IT IS KNOWN FOR CAR BREAK-INS AND ROBBERIES ON A REGULAR BASE

As we learnt later this Lider is located in an unsafe area of Puerto Montt. Car break-ins and robberies are common at the parking areas (especially the underground parking). The security personnel in charge of controlling the park decks seems to stay away from them most of the day even though they admitted thieves were around a lot and car break-ins were a normal thing to happen there. There is no video surveillance anywhere on the supermarket's property.
Whilst we went shopping someone broke into our car at the underground parking and robbed all our camera equipment plus my partner's fishing gear. After calling the emergency number, the police officer answering the call told me to go to the shop's security staff instead. My partner got the security personnel who just laughed at us saying this was nothing unusal. We insisted on getting the police come there which, once we got the security man to call them (he insisted on not doing so), took another half an hour. In front of the police that same security man said we were making this up and had been robbed before getting to the supermarket. He said nothing had been going on at the car decks during the given time (fact is both men working for security stood at the counters all the time). The police made a report (again we had to insist), but looking at the copy of that report now, I seriously wonder if anyone of them has ever gone to school: It's a paper looking as unprofessional as it could possibly be, with as many spelling mistakes as imaginable and they even failed to write down properly the items that got stolen. My partner is completely non-existant on the report.
There's two more Liders in Puerto Montt, one of them right next to a police station. Also, there's a Unimarc down at the waterfront if you head towards or come from the Carretera Austral.
