Description

.....
New Mexico Rest Area, allows one night stay, nice covered picnic tables and sites at picnic tables. Couple of vans parked behind washroom complex. Between highway and train tracks to north. You do hear the trains/braking but no whistles and it seemed to slow down between midnight and 7 am (quieter) Decent Verizon signal.

stopped here for the night and found the place is closed temporarily still.

Report Check-In

It is open, spend the night. Arrived around 10pm. Pretty noisy until around midnight but pretty quiet after that. Just a lot of truckers spending the night. Felt safe and slept well. Clean bathrooms. Left about 8 am.

Report Check-In

Didn’t stay here but I passed by during the day and it looked like there were cars in there and it was open. Can’t confirm it was open for overnight stays but it didn’t look closed anymore.

Report Check-In

Not very many parking stalls for cars and vans and the lot is right next to the trucks and highway. So I moved to the open gravel area behind. There’s a sign that says you can’t stay for more than 24hrs so seems fine to stay overnight

Those train tracks are quite close. And there were times they seemed to be coming right after each other in the middle of the night

super nice place to spend the night, but the train is indeed very noisy… notice to those who are light sleepers! washrooms were clean and cell signal is great!

super bel endroit où passer la nuit, mais le train est en effet très bruyant… avis à ceux qui ont le sommeil léger! les toilettes étaient propres et le signal cellulaire est excellent!

Report Check-In

Lots of individual spots, a bit of train noise as mentioned by others, but if you’re a heavy sleeper, you won’t notice.

Never seen a rest area like this! Main parking area was a bit busy, but plenty of individual tucked away private shelters to park next to. Train noise and windy, but for a rest stop the only thing it's missing are vending machines!

Really awesome spot for an overnight stay! The covered picnic areas have lights at night and I enjoyed practicing yoga there with the highway and train sounds. Very clean!

I've never been to a restarea with private little spots. It's nice and clean too.

Report Check-In

Quiet and dark. The picnic areas allowed for privacy and quiet.

Pretty spot, but between the trains and the highway, it's extremely noisy. Also had a night of extreme winds.

GAGE Rest Area. Free camping at rest area turn on paved road right past bathrooms. Approximately 10 covered spots to choose from. Apparently this was an old RV park and although it looks like there’s water in each site they are locked up. Each site does have a picnic table and a trashcan. FREE

Report Check-In

this is not your average rest area. you can pull off the highway a little further and have your own area with a covered picnic table and trash cans. there is a railroad track nearby but the do not blow their horn. trains went by throughout the night but didn't keep us awake.

Report Check-In

It’s nice that there are spaced out areas to stay at but I’m at #2 on the left side and the train noise is insane! A lot of them brake right next to it and have squeaky breaks, and road is still relatively loud. Good in a pinch but I wouldn’t make this a go to destination again!

Report Check-In

Nice rest area as described, stayed for one night.
