This side of the entrance had no RVs, and no generators!!! The west side was full of them. Much quieter here. These coordinates is where you can find a putt putt golf course in the sand if you have a putter and a few balls!
Several spots to park for the night.
Water and bathrooms are available about 5 miles into the park at the visitor center in the National Park. If that is closed, bathrooms are available at the cottonwood campground 24/7.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
It's a nice spot. Lots of spaces. Easy to spot with all the campers. Just wish people picked up their dog crap.
Report Check-InPlenty of previously cleared spots, many with fire rings made from rocks. Easily found a level spot for my 25’ rv just before sunset. Will stay again
Report Check-Inat least 30 folks on the side of the Joshua tree entrance, but well spread out. trash, yes, dog shit, yes, but no highway noise, beautiful skies, no bullshit of being in a campground and having people cycle through it all night looking for a spot when it's full....which happened at white tank all weekend.
Report Check-InBLM land. Wide open tons of spots. No facilities. Great Verizon service with our booster.
Report Check-InLots of room. Right off I 10 but you can’t really hear it. 3 4G tmobile bars. 6 or so miles from Cottonwood visitor center. Good views.
Report Check-InBeautiful spot! I recommend getting here before dark so you can see the sandy spots in the campsites that you want to avoid. You should generally be fine with 2wd. Spots are nicely spaced and lovely!
Report Check-InAs described. Plenty of spots and spaced far out. Most spots have fire pits already. Full Verizon service
Report Check-InBeautiful spot in the desert! Keep driving down this road to find more seclusion. Great Verizon reception too.
Report Check-InI really enjoyed this area. A lot of campers, but there are so many spots to camp that everyone seemed well spread out. I spent 2 nights here while visiting JTNP & found a spot close to the main road, but it seems to go back for quite awhile. Very quiet & nice views. Although it's right outside the park entrance, there isn't a lot to do on this side of the park so most trails will still be 45 minutes - 1 hour drive from here. Full service with T-Mobile.
Report Check-InThis spot is quite with good star gazing. Winter was a great time of the year to visit for easy access to the National Park hiking and quick drives into nearby towns for last minute needs. Off the highway, just before you enter Joshua Tree there are for roads shown on Google maps, three with deep sand and ruts best for 4x4 and smaller campers and one that's level and grated, better for 2wd and larger rigs.
Report Check-InPlenty of spots and very quiet. Some lights from the highway, but I was amazed that I couldn’t hear it at all.
Definitely check your spot before pulling in - I had to get pulled out of the sand. The roads were packed down, though.
Great spot for sunrise and sunset!
1-2 bars T-Mobile LTE
Report Check-Inwe love this place. stayed a few times a few weeks last winter. are dogs love it. can get windy. good cell service. nice and peaceful.
Report Check-InGood place to stay for a few nights. Stayed during a holiday weekend so there were lots of other campers in the area — all perfectly visible to one another in the daylight. Mixed bag of truck campers, camper vans, trailers, and tent campers. Easy access to south entrance of JTNP.
Accessible via well-established unpaved dirt tracks. 2WD ok, but be mindful of deep, soft sand in campsites. Our open diff RWD Ford Transit got stuck twice. Got pushed out one morning and winched out the next.
Great AT&T and Verizon signal. I-10 visible from the area but road noise is hardly noticeable.
Campsites we saw had established stone fire rings, but firewood is sparse here — best to bring your own wood with you, although that might run afoul of personal limits when it comes to introducing wood (and critters) foreign to the area.
Santa Ana winds were pretty brutal on our last night here. Tent campers beware.
Report Check-InGot great AT&T reception here, 4-5 bars. Verizon still decent with about 3 bars. A little bit of road noise since you can see the highway but still a great spot being close to the entrance of Joshua Tree NP. Decent stargazing spot at night too. Had no issues getting to the spot on the dirt road in a 2WD sedan.
Report Check-InMoved in here on the day after the stay at home order went into effect in California. I’ve been here now for 12 days. I love it here and this is the most beautiful time of year to visit. And the mini golf course is looking good. FYI, the course is at the first space to the right of the main road
Report Check-InI’m a bit further down the path than where this is marked, but this area is pretty special. It’s quiet desert, as long as no other camper has music blasted obnoxiously. This place will remind you how remote the desert can be.
Plenty of space. Lots of other cars, but big distances between. I feel alone.
I like it here!
didn't see the mini golf. but decent place to stay. super hot (116 degrees) in August. quiet. lots of trash but mostly in the fire pits. no amenities
