Guatemala
Camping option at a balenero approximately 40km from the border with Mexico. Basic facilities but friendly guy running the place who charged us 5Q pp/pn. We are by bicycle and pitched our tent under one of the roofs.
Many covered BBQ areas further down the hill (and therefore further from the road) with seating and space to park a rig or motorcycle. Swimming also available but I guess you would pay additionally for that. Slightly steep entrance but shouldn't be an issue. Basic tienda onsite and across the road but they only really have eggs and snacks.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
its ok! 50 per night. perfect spot before or after crossing the boarder.
Report Check-InIt’s nice that you’re off the road but you can still hear trucks. It’s a bit of a strange place but it’s still open and still a useful place to spend the night after crossing the border and it’s only Q40. We had to hunt for the caretaker to pay him.
Report Check-InBig rig friendly (we have a 7m long truck camper quite high as well)
Lots of space.
Lte claro signal.
Charged 30Q pp
We used the cold outdoor shower and toilets (manual flush with bucket)
Very basic site but safe and fairly quiet. Good spot for a night.
Report Check-InLlegamos al lugar en la tarde, pasamos la noche.
Pagamos Q20 por persona la noche.
lugar tranquilo.
acceso asfaltado.
As described. Paid 20Q each. Cold shower, toilet. You can put your tent basically anywhere. Store in front and corn sellers.
We felt medium safe 'cause it's an all open space where random ppl entered to shower.
It’s a spot. That’s probably it. Paying 50q for disgusting toilets, garbage everywhere and the smell of gasoline felt somehow wrong but it might be your best choice before or after the border. People are friendly though.
Report Check-InGood place to stay after or before the border. Nothing special, but okay.
20Q per Person and per night and dogs are welcome.
Easy to stop there before the border.50q for 2.Below the very noisy road with lots of trucks.Quieter between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Swimming pools very cold, we didn't swim.
Report Check-InNice spot to spend the night. Flat parking on the concrete sports slab near the pools. Our daughter swam the following morning when the sun came out, but the pools and the air was too chilly for us (adults). Spring water is available here - we filtered it anyway, but it is cold and clear and is what they use to fill the pools. I don’t believe they use chlorine. They just drain and clean the pools regularly, which were sparklingly clear when we visited. The trucks and buses up on the highway made a decent amount of noise as night, but not obnoxious. We felt safe and cared for here. Lots of local kids playing football and a couple of local food and snack vendors up on the road. 80/q for the three of us for swim/overnight parking
Report Check-In20Q a night, super friendly, right off the road, near Mexican Boarder. Plenty of room for all. Older bucket flush toilets.
Report Check-InA great place to spend the night near the Mexico Boarder. Q20 pp ($2.5) A water park that welcomes overnight travelers. An older facility. We preferred to use our own RR if you know what I mean, they had older bucket flush facilities. People were really nice. Plenty of room for all.
Report Check-Inthe first night for travelers is free, includes the use of bathrooms. It seems a bit abandoned but there is a place to camp, tables and grills. Eduardo is the manager and he is very kind.
Report Check-InWe paid 20 Q per person to spend one night here. We feel safe. We hear the road a little and there is a bit of traffic in the parking lot, but no one came to see us and everyone is nice. I recommend
Report Check-InVery Nice place for the night. They asked us 20Q/pers for the night. Ok for big rig. Not far from the boarder. Be carrefull on the destroyed main road… lots of holes everywhere…
Report Check-InThis place is renewed and is now called Piscinas Xemal. See other pin.
Report Check-InThis place was fun. It is called Piscinas Xemal and can be found on the Pan-American highway just 1,5 km after the exit towards Colotenango or around 1km after a Shell gas station, both coming from the northwest. We passed by on a sunny saturday afternoon and decided to stay for camping and swimming. The guy at the gate seemed surprised by our question if it was possible to stay for the night but he was very friendly. We paid 25 quetzal per person which was inclusing swimmingpool. 10 quetzal for swimming only.
During opening hours they sell, among other things, french fries, hot dogs and beer. There are bbq spots next to the river where we hitched a tent. There are parking spots at the terrain. The terrain is not closed off during the night but it felt safe. Also the road was pretty quite for a saterday night.
It is being renewed at the moment with a new restaurant area, and hopefully also a new toilet building because the old one stinks.
