The next African Burnfest will no longer take place here, but 70 km away there will still be an interesting overnight stay with a Mad Max feeling among the remains of the last festival. Nice bar, good music, good food.

Depends what you're looking for in a campsite... music blaring from the bar until the small hours, sandy pitches, very windy.
not the peace and quiet we were looking for, but suppose it would suit party types!

cool place as described. However, last AfricaBurn was before the pandemic and 2022 will be about 40km South. Still a few installation can be viewed here.
I was told you cannot take the direct "west exit" of the Tankwa park to get here, but I was lucky and the gate was open.

Very eclectic site, nice Tented accommodation, Nice "Onverklaarbaar" pub, simple , rustic and good food at very reasonable prices, very friendly receptionist, manager and staff. Camp sites are sandy, with very little wind protection.
ablutions are dated but clean with very hot water.
R 120ppn and wood is R40 per bag
very interesting skulpters and works of "ART" "left over from the Afrika Burn"
good fun fo rthe young at heart!

Really cool place alongside the R355 which is also one of the longest gravel stretches in the west of ZA. Nice bar with good crunchy chips! Campsite with nice abolutions. Price for camping at 118ZAR pp. It's definetly worth to come here and to enjoy the scenery during sunset, it's amazing! Old relicts from the former AfrikaBurn festivals are around. At the bar you will find interesting and funny people around! Henk the owner is really welcoming and works even as a tourguide for Overland trips in southern Africa! Just lekker!

Worthwhile to visit because of the feeling of Africa burn and have a look at the installations that stay.

The campsite itself is more or less crappy. No atmosphere. And if it’s windy one blows away.

Decent ablution block with light.

No electrical plugs.

No cellular signal.
WiFi vouchers 100 MB at the bar available.

Incredible place! A campsite (R110/pp), tents, chalets (with ensuite bathroom), bar and restaurant in a middle of nowhere. Frequented by friendly and fun locals, especially over the weekend. Sometimes a band would play here.

This place has an apocalyptic feel to it and is a home to the yearly AfrikaBurn festival (like the Burning Man in the US). The structures from the festival still stand all around the territory. Never saw anything like this before, probably the coolest venue we have visited coming from Europe to Cape Town... Very rustic, cozy and basic. Though, in the middle of a desert, so don’t expect much luxury :)

Run by incredibly helpful and friendly people.
You have to ask for a “snuff” at the bar!

No cellphone reception, but there is a reasonable wifi for a fee.

There is a tyre shop and they also always have some fuel for the bikes.

In my opinion, this is a must see place while in South Africa.
