We stayed for 2 weeks with this incredible and welcoming family! We had some mechanical issues to catch up on and Graham helped us with directions in Ibarra. We met other travelers, socialized and had unforgettable moments here!
Graham is an Australian ex-backpacker married to an Ecuadorian. They have a daughter and want her to have contact with travelers so that one day she can be one too! They offer an incredible structure with an apartment with a great kitchen, bathroom and even a bedroom for those who need it. You can wash clothes in the washing machine. The place is really beautiful, beautiful! They don't charge anything for providing all this structure, but it's a good idea to leave a contribution to the account of your daughter who will also travel one day!

Un lugar precioso rodeado de mucha vegetación fuimos recibidos por Amalia y Graham dos perdonas sumamente amables y entrañables , muy agradecidos por dos días maravillosos de buena compañía

Report Check-In

Wonderful parking area overlooking the city of Ibarra. Graham and Amalia are incredibly kind and welcoming. They weren't home when we arrived, but Amalia's mother was onsite. She called Graham and told him we were there. We spoke briefly and he said "make yourself at home, we have laundry if you need it and a kitchen if you want to use it. There was plenty of space for us to park, a table to eat at, hot water shower as long as you know how to use the "shower head of death". Graham and Amalia welcomed us with a cup of tea when they arrived home and Graham even built a fire for us and offered us a guest room to sleep in if we wanted it. Everything was clean and you can't beat the view. Oh, And they have 3 very friendly dogs onsite.

Everything true as stated here. We just showed up in the afternoon and called Graham - no problem to stay there. Bathrooms, WiFi, leveled spot, gorgeous view, friendly dogs (but they will be protective of their territory if you arrive with your own - that’s what Graham said :)

Report Check-In

Ah, it was a great spot! I contacted Graham a few days before we arrived, and he informed me he wouldn't be there. However, we could still use his facilities, which was very cool of him. We stayed there 2 night and had the opportunity to meet Graham and his family the 2nd night with a fire and a beer.

Report Check-In

great spot with a great view! suicide shower had enough flow when hot to be enjoyable. fast internet and dog friendly. Graham was out on vacation when we were here but the workers on the farm were very friendly and helped us out. I messaged him on the WhatsApp number on here without a response so maybe it's not current anymore.

Report Check-In

Graham here, we are now receiving travellers again

Report Check-In

Every previous description is accurate; Graham’s place is truly an oasis of tranquility and wonderful place to rest up after crossing the border from Colombia like we did.

The beautiful nursery provides an amazing backdrop to a peaceful campsite with a great view of Ibarra.

The shower can be tuned just so to get almost warm water, it’s one of those electric “suicide showers”. Be patient when fiddling with the knobs.

We chose to sleep in our RTT but Graham still let us use the kitchen in the guest area.

Highly recommended

Report Check-In

You find yourself above of a wide, park like grassy field of a nursery for plants - with spectacular views over Ibarra day and night! (See fotos of previous posts.) In the little ponds surrounded by tailored trees there are tilapias. If you like it tranquil and peaceful with a little bit of privacy, this is the right place. We were only passing Ibarra, but we stayed 2 days.
When we came, nobody was at home and we made ourselves comfortable. We were warmly welcomed with a cup of tea, when the hosts arrived.
BTW: we although stayed at Finca Sommerwind, but we liked this place more.

Report Check-In

Great place
Good facilities
Thanks very much

Super amazing people. Loved our experience. Price changed to 5$ per person per night. Still recommend staying here. Cold showers though

Report Check-In

+ stunning view over Ibarra
+ super welcoming hosts! Invited us for chocolate and cake!
+ very calm
+ cute dogs (when we were there they had two puppies)
+ free laundry
+ own living room/kitchen

- not much to do close to the campsite if you don’t want to hike up to the volcano Imbabura (8-9hours) :-)

5$ per van only!

Report Check-In

Not so big area to park, only 2 rigd, may be 3 4x4, on concrete. it is a large place where plants are cultivated n'y Graham and his wife. they are really kind people, offering tea at their table and even more...ready to help you. very quiet area day and night. hot shower , banos, kitchen, all clean, electricity 110 & 220, water available. Can wash your clothes. 5$ for 2 inclued the motorhome. nice view, and could even fish in the pond.
Problem is the entre with big holes if you have a big rig you will break the rear of your rig....Graham has all needed to work out, but still left a very bad entrance except for 4x4...it's a pity as Graham's family enjoys welcoming of travelers...

Report Check-In

We came just for one night and stayed two.
Great place and great people.

Report Check-In

Very good place to spend several days, comfortable, with shared area and washing machine. The gardens are very beautiful with crops. Although it is a little out of the way, it is compensated by silence and tranquility.

Wonderful first stop in Ecuador. Spent two nights here $5 pn for the van. Amalea fed us even when we weren't hungry! And they both invited us out to Chinese although we couldn't go we felt so welcomed. Level, WiFi, Laundry, toilets etc included. Thanks Graham!

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Incredible! After finding Finca Sommerwind wasn’t to our taste (too cramped, too many people), we cane here and were delighted. Graham’s handyman Raul showed us around and as described by others, has everything you could wish for, in a very tranquil and beautiful environment! Thanks!

Wonderful place. We paid $10 for 2 people for 2 nights. We had a whole self contained flat to ourselves including a decent kitchen with big fridge and water filter. Great view over the city. Graham and his family are fantastic and regularly offered us food and hot drinks as well as taking us into town to visit the supermarket. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

This was a really nice place and we enjoyed our stay with the family. They welcomed us so natural and made us feel at home. And the view over Ibarra is great as well!

Report Check-In

I will never forget those two days with Amalia, Graham and Leah. Their arms and hearts were open, they welcomed me like an old friend and allowed me to be part of their family.
Incredible hospitality!!

Report Check-In

What an amazing place and family. We can highly recommend to stay here. Graham and his family are super welcoming. They are going out of their way to make your stay memorable, they assisted us with doctor appointments and invited us for coffee and cake. On top our dog loved playing with one of their dogs. For 5$ per car a day you get to use an amazing common room, kitchen and bathroom with hot shower. We were able to plug into electricity as well. Furthermore you can spend your day fishing talapia at his Pond.

Report Check-In

Wonderful stay with Graham and his family. They took us into the city in their van (and back) as they go almost every day themselves. We fished in their pond with the kids, enjoyed the communal room to hang out cook, and watch movies. Graham even got us the information for an air conditioning Mechanic we could trust, has a different Mechanic for other car issues. Super happy we came here. And yes, $5 per vehicle to get that stunning view from his gardens. Leah, Graham's 5 year old Daughter is sweet and happy (and bilingual) and loves to play with the kids of traveling families. Indigo and she spent a lot of time in her playroom!

Report Check-In

Graham and Amalia are the sweetest people. We highly recommend staying here. The cost is $5/car (not per person). They have a kitchen for use, bathroom and shower, electricity if you need and water. Amalia started baking us a cake as soon as we pulled into the property which we had for breakfast with yogurt the next morning. They even uninvited us our to dinner the night we arrived, but we had already begun making ours. They greeted us with a hot oat drink which was tasty and offered to us to do our laundry (at no cost) ~ there is no dryer so you’ll need to hand dry (make sure there is sun light left in the day). We had no issue getting here using google maps. The property is gorgeous and the view of the city is beautiful at night and in the day.

If you’re going to stay in Ibarra, stay here. It’s the least expensive with all the amenities you need - plus you get to spend some time with the nicest couple in town.

Amazing place, you have an amazing view of the whole city of Ibarra. Great wifi , hot shower, and kitchen. When we were there Graham's dog had puppies so it was awesome to play with them. He is very hospitable and so is his wife and his daughter Leah , we were received with Tea and cookies and all free.. We gave some money to the maid because she made us yummy breakfast! And we also cleaned up and left everything as it was.

Graham's nursery is a paradise! It's up on a hill, overlooking Ibarra. Graham is an amazing host! He has a whole extra section for guests with a kitchen (with the beautiful view, also :)), full bathroom and even a big bedroom! We loved hanging out with him, drinking tea and getting great tips! :) Also, he helped us find a new power converter for our car!! :) And we got to spend some time with his daughter Leah and her mom Amalia! Very sweet, also! Oh and it's true: He all offers this for free!

We had a wonderful time in Graham's Garden. He gave us a room, there was hot shower and a kitchen with amazing view.

Report Check-In

This place is a must for everybody who is in the region. Graham and Amalia are the best host I every had. I could park my car in the their garden, got food, could wash, hot shower and even a room for FREE. Graham showed me around on his farm, wedid a tour with his own motorcylces. This is the kind of hospitality that you every dreamed of, but though that it does no longer exist on that planet.

Before you arrive write him an email [email protected]. Once arrived in Ibarra call him on 0994494883 since the dirt road to his "finka" is not shown on Google Maps and it might be difficult to find the place at your own.

Report Check-In

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would give it 7. Graham is an awesome guy and just loves having overlanders stop by and share stories. He's beyond hospitable and makes you feel right at home. There's an extra bedroom that he would let you use. A spare bathroom and a living area with a full kitchen. His garden is very nice and very peaceful. He drove us to the trail head of Imbabura early in the morning. Great guys and great experience.

Report Check-In

Graham is a great guy and the place is fabulous. Many of our friends have passed through and so stories keep bubbling up.

I'm copying Luis [lostworldexpedition] from his website, where we first learned about Graham: "Graham
is
every
overlander’s
dream.
 He
is
a
very
nice
Australian
 that
owns
 some
land
 and
 a
 nursery just
outside
Ibarra.
He
has
built
a
 nice
 kitchen,
bathroom,
and
even
a
room
 with
a
 few
beds
 and
 offers
 them
 free
 of
 charge
to
 overlanders
coming through
the
 area.
There
is
a
 flat
cement
slab
in
front
of
the
kitchen
to
park
and
you
can
run
an
extension
chord
for
electricity.
It
is
best
to
send
 him
 an email
before
arriving:
[email protected]

to
let
him
 know
 you
 are
coming
 and
 get
directions.
 Graham
 doesn’t accept
money
for
your
stay,
but
I’m
 sure
he
would
appreciate
an
 invite
for
a
meal
while
you
are
there." - Thank you Luis for the introduction!

So here we are just baked some breads to share and reminiscing about the worlds wonders together.

Be sure to leave a nice comment or postcard in his visitorsbook!
