Description

Best place around Liwonde. We stayed first at Bushman Baobab but our paths crossed with the owner (Billy) of this place. It's a Malawian place, very special since almost every lodge in Malawi is owned by foreigners. The place is 5km from the village next to the park with a great lookout point along the river where you see elephants and other wildlife. Billy offers boattrips and game drives for a good price. He is amazing: he has so much knowledge and is a good storyteller. He takes all the time to entertain you. And the best of all: he has the biggest telescope of Malawi, so during the evening he explains to you everything about the universe and you can see all the planets. Billy is a inspiring Malawian. Food (2500 kw a meal) and drinks available.

Very much recommended especially since everything is Malawian-owned and goes back to the community. Best place we stayed in Malawi!

This place is open! Had a great boat tour with Thandeke (Billy’s Son). Very friendly people and had the best meal in Malawi!

OPEN!
Really lovely family run campsite. it was hit hard by the last cyclone so they are rebuilding a lot of it. That should not keep you from going and supporting them!

It's the only Campsite in the area that is ran by a malawi family. The place is close to the river and also to the village. They offer food as well, but you have to let them know in advance. Otherwise you can buy some things in the village beside it. Very nice people.

also, if you pass by in the next days: I left a t-shirt there and would love it if it finds its way back. It was a gift from some dear people. 0041778129698

The boat ride was great too, lots of beautiful animals on a great boat!

We got here but it’s not open, washed away and the guys are busy repairing it, very small road, basically bike tracks and bush bashing to make it there, maybe best to check with the sister lodge in liwonde if it’s open before trying to get there. We ended up staying at the sister lodge, nice room for 20,000 3 of us stayed in 1 room.

We are all for supporting locals and are trying to support where we can. We have been touring Malawi for 2 months. There is rustic and then there is rundown. This place is unfortunately rundown. No maintenance been done. We ordered food but it was an hour later then we were told it would be ready, but the food were tasty and the cook and other staff were very friendly. We didn't meet Billy. The view over the river is ok and you can hear hippos at night.

nice quite place, yes it is rustic but clean and we enjoyed it to stay here.
don't miss the walk to the Plattform. we saw maybe 20 elegant, hippos, Antilope, waterborne and warthogs
the owner is absolut friendly guy. Help him to grow up!

This is a VERY rustic place. You had to camp at the 'reception' overlooking an old rusty car and a run down 'museum'. Cold bush shower. 5 USD pp and 5usd for simple but nice meal. Billy is a very nice guy, but he was only there when we arrived. He said we really needed to get up to view the moon (2am). But we didn't see Billy anymore... Mc Cloud took over, and showed us the stars with the telescope, but didn't know much about the universe... He also promised to be there at night, but didn't pitch up. We were very disappointed. Next morning no sign of Billy...

Agree entirely with above comments. Don’t be put off by the narrow track that leads you there - it really is a road! Google maps has the track but not on tracks4africa yet. Billy is an inspiring guy and deserves our support. He will also be offering village visits from now too. This place directly benefits local Malawians. The bathrooms are rustic but clean and the meal on arrival was most welcome. Great game viewing platform a short walk from camp.
