Beautiful campsites next to smoky river. Free, many spots.

far from the road, very quiet. road is a tiny bit rough to get here but nothing dramatic. river is very low this time of year but still pretty
Report Check-InIndefinitely scenic and peaceful. I came mid-week so I had the best site right by the river all to myself without neighbors. A local informed me that the flood warnings are for the spring thaw, not an issue in August. There is a cook shelter with a wood stove among the higher sites. Wish I remembered that one rainy morning haha! Better stick to the sand beach, your shoes will stick in the muck everywhere else.
Report Check-InI stopped by and loved this place. Definitely take the 40 and not the 734. The 734 is a gravel road that will add a lot of time though it is very well maintained and fine if you want a slower pace. I didn't feel comfortable staying there for the night with the Alberta Fires so I headed onto a spot called Brainard Lake. It was a great spot and so sad I couldn't stay the night there. Oh I added a photo of the 734 on the way in it was nice just around 200km of it to get to the spot.
Report Check-Innice hugh free campground, free firewood, clean, but 10km of the hwy unpaved road and a lot of logging trucks, also at 8pm when we arrived and 20 trucks when we leave (4pm), lots of dust and they are fast, not worth detour for 1 night.
Report Check-InStayed a night here. Theres some sites lower by the beach, but a warning sign not to stay overnight there due to potential flash floods.
Plus the pit toilets are by the upper sites, and they were decent!
Report Check-InAmazing place, don't get confused by the sketchy oil company street leading here. There are 7 double sites and 5 single sites, pit toilets fire wood and fire rings, bear proof garbage bins, picnic tables on each site. No potable water. Now in August there are tooons of Saskatoon Berry's and raspberrys too. Surprisingly only very few mosquitos. Short walk to the river.
Maximum stay 14 days, no permit or similar necessary.
What a beautiful free campsite next to the river with firepits and picknick tables. We stayed one night, really really beautiful. Lots of free sites on weekend
Report Check-InNice place by the river. We stayed for 1 night. Lots of atvs probably because it was a weekend. If your vehicle is above 2 tons you must talk we the guard at Canol road intersection with the highway.
