Just updating on winter / early spring conditions - the county roads are cleared up to about half a mile past the vista point turn off. The parking area itself is not cleared but accessible in some spots.
Report Check-InAmazing place. There were a lot of cars with photographers at sunsets because it was the golden weekend and a changing leaves were just astounding. It got very quiet at nights, only one camper and I. There are two locations; choose the one posted Vista Point, it has less cars than the campsite below which has more what looks like local hunters.
Report Check-InFairly high trafficked area as it’s a posted overlook for the area. Great views and night skies, but LTE is hard to come by. Typically about 1-1.5mb down with external antennas for hotspots.
Report Check-InThe official vista point parking doesn’t have much of a vista, but there is another field that I found a spot for my van in with a nice view to the west.
Report Check-InNice spot, definitely free but “best camping spot in CO” is a bit of a stretch. We showed up mid-week and had it to ourselves but we prefer sites with access to water to add to our “best of” list. You do have beautiful vistas but we won’t stay here 2 nights
Report Check-InGreat camping at the vista point below Owl Creek Pass in Uncompahgre National Forest with a gorgeous view to Cimmaron Ridge and tons of colorful aspen and oak. One of the nicest camping spots in Colorado.
Report Check-InArrived at night, surprised to find bunch of big vehicles and trailers with generators running at 10pm at night. Bummer to drive this far up a dirt road to have generator noise to spoil the atmosphere...
But prob a great place when it’s quiet
