Description

We found this spot on freecampsites.net and spent a night here. You basically park in between the two traffic directions of the highway. No "no overnight" signs. We pulled over at 9pm and decided to stay because we saw a few vans and a big bus that were clearly spending the night there. Noisy and pretty dirty but ok for a night or two. We left around 7:30am. Free.

This spot has no parking signs all over it...like 50 of em. Don't even bother. It's closed for sure. The other spots down the highway are still open though. I just parked down toward the end and there are dopeheads everywhere.

Side parking on great highway. Amazing view, few feet away from the beach. It is pretty loud but not super disruptive. Make sure to look at parking signs. No parking between 1-3pm 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Close to bathrooms which close by like 8pm.

Just be careful pulling in when it's dark. We pulled into what we thought was a good spot but it was actually deep sand and our 2wd campervan wasn't happy. Easy enough to get unstuck but might not be so easy for others.

Decent location, even midweek in the summer this space fills up well before sundown so you'll need to claim a spot early. Highly recommend earplugs considering the highway is literally 10-20ft away from you.

A good spot to park for the night. It’s between two highways and you can only access it driving northbound. It’s right between the ocean and the San Francisco zoo which is nice. There were other RV’s and truck campers parked there too. The noise settles down after 9pm but it’s never totally silent.

Good place to park for the night right across from the San Francisco Zoo. The ocean is right across the street and you are essentially parked between two highways. You can only access it from the northbound side. The noise settles down at about 10pm. No one bothered us in our small motorhome. A few other RV’s and truck campers and cars where parked there too.

it is nice spot for a night. it is in the middle of big road. so it can be very loud at night and in the morning. phone signal is great.

Great Hwy runs along the beach, but there is also a part of the road called Great Hwy that runs in front of houses (go to google maps and look at Great Hwy and Slout Blvd). You can turn right off of Slout onto a section of Great Hwy, or turn onto the Great Hwy that runs along the beach. The road off of Slout Blvd when you turn right allows parking for vehicles shorter than 22ft long and 7ft tall and shorter. There were sleeper vans parked all along the road. If you do park here park opposite of the side closest to the houses. They also do street sweeping on Mondays so avoid that day or move before the sweep. The road is slightly busy and you can feel your car move when they drive by, but overall well lit and safe. We parked with a cargo box on top and no one bothered us.

There was also parking available on the part of the Great Hwy along the beach. If you turn left off Slout Blvd you’ll see public bathrooms at the intersection, and a little way down on the left there is parking in sand (you’ll have to go down and make a U-turn). There are no lights so make sure you’re prepared.

There is also parking along Slout when heading toward Great Hwy. There was a 20+ ft RV parked there when we drove in. You cannot be parked there from 5am-7am but it would work in a pinch.
