Big and open space. Several (at least 10) spots on different levels, most with fire rings, some pretty windy. Busy, especially when the Conrad campground is full, but sites here are generously large. Access to water from Big Thing Creek.
There is a popular trail, "Mountain Hero", which starts right across the Klondike Highway and offers great views of the Windy Arm Lake.
A new foot bridge across the creek allows for easy access to the Conrad Historical Site and the campground.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
one of the most beautiful places we have stayed. plenty of space for any size rig and various levels to choose from. you can also get all the way to the river and if it's hot enjoy a swim in the cold water. definitely recommend!
Report Check-InNice place with lots of flat sites. Pretty clean. The road is easy to miss.
Report Check-InVery nice stop if the Conrad camping site is full. We camped at the top level. If you want to go down to the creek in a car take the right path as the left path is too rough even for 4WD. You will total your car. There are stones in the left path to indicate not to go through there.
Was very clean when we arrived there. Nice job!
Amazing site, flat areas everywhere !
Fire pits too, close to the river and with and spectacular views to the mountains.
Pleas keep it clean :)
Report Check-InBetter view than the paid State Campsite. A bit rocky. Has plenty of room for RV of various sizes. Constant flowing stream next to campsite is therapy for my sleep. Open space with no canopy is excellent for aurora viewing.
Report Check-InWe drive a 'smallish' vehicle (Land Cruiser 100 with roof tent), which was able to back in to almost where the creek flows into the lake. We leveled the car with a few stones and had a very private spot. Sheltered from the wind, yet few insects. We stayed two nights, left for Skagway but found this spot vacant upon return and spent another two nights.
Supposedly there is a black bear in the area (banners at Conrad campground in July 2022) - we were extra bear aware. We did see a Bald Eagle (which makes the resident seagulls audibly nervous) almost everyday.
Report Check-InRealy first camp place after Skagway, therw are silent alotof mushrooms and bears.
Report Check-InRealy first silent and quait woldcamp, after Skagway. We find alotof mushrums, there are nice creek and be carefull...bears...
Report Check-InAmazing spot! Many sites next to the river and walking distance to the lake. Favorite spot so far in the Yukon! Fire rings and flat spots. If you have a tent go all the way down the river for some nice flat tent spots in the trees. Easy access for 2 wheel drives.
Report Check-Inbeautiful, lots of place, firepits, trails, quite, all Kind of campers fits, free
Report Check-InTake road approx 2 km from conrad campround (same side). GrVel pit with many sites
Report Check-InVery nice spot, beautiful vue on the mountains around and quiet… only me and 2 locals tonight, some raspberries around so sweet, many fire pits and at least 10 spots
Report Check-Innice spot with a lot of space for several vehicles. it's very rocky so not really tent friendly but great for vehicle. far enough from the highway to not be bothered by the traffic (it is very quiet anyway). great little walk near the river possible from the spot too
Report Check-InPlease note that it’s band land. Two first nation men with safety vest in a big white pickup truck came to talk to us in the morning. They were friendly and laid back, but I understand that if this spot gets too popular, some « no camping » signs might appear. The official Yukon campground is 1km away...
Ok for one night. Big open space. Better to go around to the right (at the fork) for 2wd/low clearance vehicles, it will lead you to the same place. Lots of dead wood, even more across the highway.
The magical spot is back in only at the bottom next to the creek.
There’s a bike/hiking trail across the highway. See pictures for descriptions. It’s the info center in Carcross that lead us here.
Report Check-InBeaucoup d'espace pour plusieurs campeurs de toute grosseur. Vue magnifique.
Report Check-InLarge area probably a old gravel pit. But nice spot close the creek. Plenty of space. You can walk to the shore lake via the camping. There also a trail the other side of the road. We spend two night Conrad camping was full.
Report Check-InVery nice spot near the creek. Off the road. No highway noise.
