Latest Check-Ins

The place is as described previously: you camp in front of the house on a grassy lawn (watch out for dog poo), and can use the facilities of the villa (big kitchen, relax area, veranda, braai). Nice hot showers, and there is WiFi, but nobody knew the password... All water is potable (filtered) and they have a long hose to fill up your tanks. The chickens will wake you quite early in the morning...

The Villa Menongue is beautiful, we felt very comfortable and safe here. We found it very generous that we were allowed to use everything. Everyone was very friendly. We found the rate of 200R PPPN absolutely appropriate. There is a lot of trust in the travelers, we also had to pay the accommodation fee of the Cueta Game Reseve here.

Having to deal with Stefan was our worst Angola experience overall. We would like to discourage overlanders to camp at Villa Menongue (or any of his properties).

We arrived late at Villa Menongue on October 13. The staff opened the gate immediately upon arrival, so we think that he got our request to stay. We asked for the price, and Stefan’s employee said he would contact him and let us know. Then we were introduced into the campground. Actually, there wasn’t a campground, it was just “ground” in front of the - really nice colonial - house, no sites, no stands, no shade, hardly level. We asked for hot showers and were shown a bathroom in the house. There was not hot water in the shower when we were using the bathroom.

Next morning we were told that the price is 9000 AOA pppn. We thought this to be a mistake as the price for camping was 3000 AOA in July 2022. We sent Stefan a message to ask, because we never paid more than a total of 10000 AOA for any campsite in Angola. He got mad with us and very aggressive. He increased the price to 10000 pppn, called us and claimed we would be robbing him and Angola. We told him that we didn’t agree, but it’s his property and we accept his price no matter what and ended the call.
We paid, got a signed receipt from his guard and left.

Still, we got this SMS from him:

"I will inform now all the border authorities that you left without paying the bill. So please be aware of it, you will get arrested at the border."

Really lovely quiet place outside Menongue. It's not on Google maps yet, so I thought it was closed, but I mailed Stefan and he has workers here, who will welcome you. Very friendly people. The villa is incredibly beautiful and I decided to take a room. I will not share the price, as I think Stefan gave me a big discount out of pity :D
Camping is 3000 kwanza.
it's asfalt almost all the way, then a few kms of dirtroad with some sandy patches, then 100 meters of sand. When you arrive it doesn't look like anything, it's not until you enter the house, that you see thd magic. Make sure to look in the books about Angola on the coffee table.
The room is like a dream, the livingroom/kitchen is beatiful and I was allowed to use everything. Decided to stay 2 nights.

Emailed Stefan and got a quick reply. Camped outside of the villa and used the bathroom with hot shower in the villa. Wifi, drinkable water and a quiet night. Best camp during our 3 weeks of driving through Angola. Stefan is super friendly and helpful and gave us some good advice. He also has a lodge further south towards the Namibian border

Report Check-In

Good for a night. Facilities are clean; hot shower and there’s a braai. You camp next to the villa on a big grassy area. The campsite is roughly 6km away from the city. No sign.

We just showed up but it’s probably better to contact the owner first ([email protected]) None of the staff knew what to do or knew the price for camping. They eventually came up with ‘100 dollar’, which we assumed to be Namibian dollar, although the staff wasn’t sure which currency they wanted.

We had a fabulous stay here. Stefan the owner is super helpful and very knowledgeable about Angola. This is a nice place to stay for a couple of days and do day trips in the area like to the Cuito Cuanavale war museum. In the town Menongue there is a Shoprite and a nice bakery. Be aware that none of my bank cards worked in any ATM or shop and they only take cash for fuel so make sure you have enough cash.
