Tajikistan
This is just before Anzob tunnel. Tunnel of death as they call it, but that is not so true anymore. It is just a tunnel with bad lighting. Very doable with car.
With bycicly don't do it. Just hitch a ride.
We don't have any photos of this place yet.

Tunnel is really really dark, but actual road surface was OK in august. Not many pot holes and not much water at all. But there are big open gutters on either side of the road so be careful! Also, there are about 10 more short tunnels after the main big one, so just beware!!
Report Check-InVery dangerous on a bike. There is a lot of smoke inside. Poorly lit. Tajik driver therefore dangerous. It is better to hitchhike.
Report Check-InStill nasty air in 2023, but lights almost everywhere and decent road. Only a bit wet in some places.
Report Check-InThe smog is indeed atrocious - visibility was maybe 20 meters. However, the entire tunnel is now lit and the road surface is smooth and dry - I didn't see any potholes. on a motorcycle I would absolutely recommend wearing an N95 mask if you have one.
Report Check-InI wasn't allowed to cycle across the tunnel.
Still in very bad condition...
It’s indeed not the best tunnel in the world. Some parts have lightning, would not recommend with a bicycle. Would turn off your A/C, the smell is really bad.
Report Check-Inwe went thorough this. road in tunnel is ok bit bad and water on floor at the end Tajikistan side. we was on motorbikes and we couldn't see far in front of us and was going very steady and was getting overtaking it was very smoggy in tunnel too
Report Check-InTook this tunnel on our way to Dushanbe with our motorcycles.
Very bad to no lightning in certain part of the tunnel, with no ventilation at all. Atmosphere is very polluted so high beam can sometimes feel useless as the light reflect in the ambient dust.
However the road surface is now pretty good on all its length, there is no "trap" (like potholes) to avoid.
All in all it is easily doable with a car/truck/motorcycle. I wouldn't do it with a bicycle though.
Report Check-InIt is also fun on a motorcycle! if you have additional lights, use it, there are few really dark parts. and in general avoid the rush hour. Lot of truck drivers are stopping around 11/12 for lunch if that helps.
