AZ-GE: border isn’t closed, just not possible currently to enter AZ over land. I exited AZ to GE and was the only one. According to the reaction of the guards probably for quite a while. Van was briefly checked before the gate and one guard wanted a “present” but in the end the other convinced him to give up. Inside the van was checked again. the car customs took a while and the lady had to make multiple phone calls. I don’t know why though. Passport control was also relatively smooth.
Georgian side was super friendly. Vans go through truck lane and unfortunately the system randomly selects vehicle for xray. A guard drove with me to the scanner about 1km away and managed to put me in front of the line of trucks. He was super friendly and actually apologized for the procedure, but they had to do it. Afterwards we drove back, he collected my passport and handed it over and I was done.
All took about 1h.

At this time, the border seems to be closed.

Haven’t had any luck at Sadikhly, as this border was closed from Azerbaijan side. When I got to this border crossing, a police officer approved me and took a photo of my passport. He said we have to wait what Azerbaijan border decides, apparently that’s due to Covid. I waited over two hours to get the sad news that even though I have an approved Azerbaijan eVisa and am vaccinated plus booster, im not allowed to cross. I was told to go to the Embassy of Azerbaijan at Vakhtang Gorgasali street 4 in Tbilisi and get a special permit. Will update if that worked. At this time I suggest going there first if you plan to use the border at Red Bridge to make sure you actually can cross.

Update: Azerbaijan Embassy was no help at all, no crossings allowed atm. Keep googling, there is talk that the land borders to Azerbaijan will open in July. Fingers crossed!

Covid Update Aug 14 2021:

Border is open in AZ -> GE direction.

We could cross today with Land Cruiser, Azeri side let us out despite several official statements that the border was closed.

Super friendly guys on both sides.

We were charged about 270€ for Azeri “national tax” from 03/2020 till 08/2021. Could not negotiate. They did not charge a penalty for overstaying the 30day temporary import permit due to covid though.

We had a fairly easy crossing - after being turned away at Sadiqli/Sadixli border because of our trailer, we arrived at Red Bridge mid afternoon. The Georgian side was quick, maybe 10 minutes, passports stamped and through. There was a small queue to get closer to the Azerbaijan side, and some confusion between the guards as to where to send us, but we ended up in the bus queue with 3 minibuses in front of us. The search was fairly quick but you can't move on until you have insurance (around 40 EUR for a month). You have to get insurance at a separate booth. When you are here you are given ticket that is used to track your progress. After the insurance you go to a bank window to pay and also return back to the insurance window with proof of payment or when they scan your ticket at the exit you won’t be able to leave. All up it took around 1.5 hours.
There are money changers as soon as you leave the border on the AZ side, but we waited until we found an atm in one of the towns. The first few supermarkets we found only took cash. SIM card note: Bakcell doesn't allow hotspot usage, but Azercell does (and was a bit cheaper).

With a motorbike one of the fastest crossing border ever, even in Az. 10 minutes passing all the lines
Good luck!

Report Check-In

arrived at 20:00. Georgian side went quickly, 15 mins.
but Azerbaijan side is tougher.

They separate minibuses and normal cars. The queue for minibuses was around 1 hour, but the queue for normal cars was probably 1+ km long and not moving. The other report saying 5.5 hours waiting time is probably correct.

We had to pay 32USD for 30 day insurance and something else.

So if you are traveling with a minibus: this border is fine.
If you are traveling with a non-minibus: maybe follow the advice and try Sadixli?
