Description

Beautiful campground in a valley down a nice 4x4 road. Right off Castle Creek that is more like a river after it rains. Road can be difficult after heavy rain but worth the drive!

Latest Check-Ins

Rough road going up, but definitely worth it! I would recommend taking Castle Peak Road from the west, starting from Rochford, as it is only 3 miles of rough road. The other option is taking it up from the East, starting from Mystic, but that leads to 9 miles of rough road.

One of our all-time favorite campsites! No cell service for many miles around, quiet, beautiful scenery, and Castle Creek runs behind every site. We hiked up a trail to the top of the hill to the west overlooking the campsite with our 7 year old son and dog, would be doable for anyone in moderate shape. Exercise caution and stay on trail, another camper who was staying there next to us broke his leg going off trail trying to summit the peak to the north, and was waiting for 8 hours to be rescued!

Great remote campground right along Castle Creek. Nine campsites all with fire ring and picnic table. There's a pit toilet.

The road in from either direction is rocky and bumpy. Expect slow going for the last few miles. 4wd is not required if the weather isn't bad, but there are some ruts, rocks, and puddles to navigate.

High elevation, so expect the temperature to drop at night.

If the campground is full, you can find some good wild camping along the road.

Very nice. The road was rough but not terrible. I had the whole place to myself. The creek provided a welcome soothing sound. The name on the sign indicates it is Castle Peak. On the cliff is an American flag put there by some disabled veterans. Very cool!
