Description

Exit Uz: Nothing special, didn’t look into the van. He asked me for the hotel registrations, I gave him four notes (we camped the other nights) he looked at the uppermost and gave them back to me.

Entry Tj: Easy with E-Visa. They asked 24$ for desinfection, I said no three times and that we didn’t have any cash. They were happy with that answer and wished us a happy journey. During the vehicle registration later we had the chance to tell them that we wanted to stay longer than 15 days (which is the standard temp import time), he looked at the E-Visa and gave us until its expiration date, just ask for it! And of course 25$ road tax which seems to be legit, you get a receipt for that!

On both sides nice guards but a little slow as usual 😉

TJ -> UZ
It took forever! We arrived at 10pm and were finally through the next day 11am, after nothing happened for several hours during the night and an power outage occurred in the morning.
Everybody was really friendly, our campervan was checked very shortly and superficially. We left on the 10th day in Tajikistan, nobody asked us for proof of registration though.

Tajik and Uzbek: scanning bicycle luggage with X-rays

TJ to UZ. TJ: very easy process. Soldiers ask us to get in front of the queue. One soldier was from Wakhan Valley so we exchanged good spots to visit. UZ side searched the car a bit more in detail than we were used to. The car got registered on their computer but I got no TIP paper despite asking twice for this. And rightly so, when we exited UZ a week later we were not asked for this. All in all less than two hours for the total border crossing.

Fairly simple checkout from Uzbekistan, no hotel slips checked for us, they considered scanning all our bags at customs but ended up just having a quick look in our panniers without moving anything.

Check in to Tajikistan was also easy, no COVID check, just stamped passport at immigration. They tried to tell us that we could only take one dog per person into the country but after asking for the policy and just having around a long time they got fed up and we were allowed to take all 3 of our dogs. motorcycle registration was easy but slow, USD$10 per bike in any currency but they pick the exchange rate, we paid in Russian Ruble which we needed to get rid of anyway and the exchange rate was about 8% above the middle rate, so not too bad. Bike and luggage checks were very token.

All up we were through in about 2 hours.

we had no problem to get out UZ and to enter TJ.
tax road even for 15 days : 25 dollars. you get a paper and a receipt. it's the tax road for temporary importation of your vehicule.
1h30 to go through the border. guards are slow.

It took us over three hours to cross.

Tajikistan exit was easy, no checks or bribes, took maybe 10 minutes.

Into Uzbekistan took a long time, about 1,5 hours in front of closed gate (there was an ambulance driving around the border zone so maybe we were unlucky), passport control was chaotic with people trying to cut in line and they didn’t know what to do with our e-visa. Car control was very easy and they filled the forms for us. During the check they only opened the fridge and one cabinet, not even all doors were opened. Just a lot of questions about marihuana. No bribes.

Quick border crossing.

Tajik side exiting
no issues, no vehicle inspection just took our customs form and stamped passports.

Uzbek side entering.
Sent to the quarantine / disinfection office first where we refused to pay. Showed them our earlier visas for Uzbek, and Russia and said not paying as didn’t have to pay previously. They asked if we had cat or dog, said no and they told us to leave.

After that quick passport control with eVisa and then customs declaration and inspection.
Customs forms not in English and no one was able to help but a young girl also crossing helped us out.

All in all about 1 hour to cross

We crossed the border today and it was nice going, till they tried to pull the desinfection scam on us, right next to the water hole. They where very insistant and he even wrote a receipt. We didn't pay, but they weren't happy at all. We said we didn't have to pay for desinfection in russia, kz and uzb. They let us go after that.
