From San Pedro de Atacama turn left on gravel road B-357. This route is in good condition. Then turn right at the intersection before Paso Huaitiquina. This road is called « migrationes » on Maps.me, a bit rough but 4x4 not necessery. All the way is amazing with nice views on lagunas and salars. And you will be alone.
I know, the route 23-CH from Paso Sico is beautiful too, but from our opinion, the scenery on this road is much better. The loop is highly recommanded. Where the waypoint is marqued on iOvernander, this is the highest pass on the road at 4700m asl.
Enjoy ;-)

Amazing drive to lake Lejia. Some parts quite bumpy and sandy, but should be doable with a 2wd and enough speed at the right moments;) Next to lake Lejia they are contstructing a building, and the workers there told us the road from there to San Pedro is closed due to vulcanic activity, so we had to turn around. Beautiful drive though with lots of wildlife. Also seems the only way right now to visit lake Lejia.
Report Check-InThis road is partly closed. The Carabineros told us you can only drive to laguna Leija. The rest of the route is blocked, so we couldn't pass.
Report Check-InVery scenic route indeed. Motorcycles beware though, the road is graded nicely but there are deep ruts and potholes filled in with loose sand. Drive slow.
